Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft announces partnership with Ocolus!!! early E3 Megaton!

I'm confused. If I have a PC capable of running Oculus, (i5/ GTX970), why would I want stream games from my XBox and not play them direct from the much more powerful PC?

Neat. Though I will probably still use my DS3 to game with Oculus.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

So in terms of the X1 this is a whole bunch of nothing, if I understand this correct, right?

I first want to say that I don't have a very positive opinion of VR (Oculus, Morpheus, whatever). It just seems too intrusive, with the goggles, headphones, controllers, cables, straps...looks like a torture device more than technology that is supposed to provide full immersion.
I think this VR fad will fade away in a few years, failing completely.

That said, this XOne deal seems like it was thought out by Rube Goldberg himself - how to find the most complicated method to play XOne games. Stream the game from console to PC then to OR onlybto view it on the screen an inch from your nose while still looking like a console game without any VR whatsoever.
And all that for about $2000 (console plus OR said that their setup is about $1500 for PC and OR).

Good job by MS for finding more markets for their controller, but I seriously doubt OR will help them sell even one console more than they would anyway.

I agree with your first paragprah totally.

They did say that, this was a "glimpse of the start of the partnership with MS". to be fair.

Yeah, but is that partnership about Xbox One or about PC games ?

Because we have reports of MS thinking about focusing more on PC games, Spencer will be at the PC conference, Oculus now with Halo and Forza playable on PC... Isn't MS coming back on pc gaming slowly ?

Good going MS :)

I haven't been following VR lately, last time I was checking, it seemed, though I really started disliking those wankers, that Valve has the best tech. Anything changed in the meantime?

Interesting choice of words and time to reveal.

By stream, does it mean physically streaming the data from X1 to the Rift, or is it just for the xbox games on windows 10?

Well, you have to have the Rift connected to a Windows 10 PC.

Then you have to stream your game from Xbox One to the PC.

You have to be sitting at your computer it seems.

Also, the games are not VR.  You just see a virtual screen shoing the game playing on a 2D screen.

The partnership is a free XBO controller with Oculus and the ability to stream a couple of XBO games to your PC which streams to your Rift. It feels like Microsoft trying to create a presence in the VR market without creating their own headset, which is what I wish they did.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

OR is not meant for consoles. Why do people commenting not understand this?

Because MS, a console developer has announced a partnership allowing some form of console VR.

What part of this do you not understand?

Sure you can stream the games to your PC and let your PC do the work for OR.  But the point of this is all about the controller as you will need one with VR.
