Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft announces partnership with Ocolus!!! early E3 Megaton!

Every Rift will come with a wireless Xbox One controller.

At its pre-E3 press conference today, Oculus announced a partnership with Microsoft.

Brendan Iribe, Oculus VR, CEO stressed the importance of shipping the Oculus Rift with a gamepad, and revealed that every headset will come bundled with a wireless Xbox One controller and adaptor.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer took the stage to elaborate on the partnership: “The opportunity for us to bring our wireless controller, the one that we’ve spent so many years refining, to every Oculus user at launch is incredibly exciting for us.

“The Rift will natively work with Windows 10. And we all know that VR experiences require the highest performance, and with Direct X 12, we believe we’ll be able to create state of the art virtual reality experiences on top of Windows.”

But it won't just be compatible with PC. Spencer revealed, "People will be able to stream their Xbox One games to Oculus Rift," with specific titles like Halo, Sunset Overdrive, and Forza all mentioned as being compatible.

Oculus Rift is slated for release in Q1 2016.

Haha....what a megaton!

Pretty awesome news

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

And just like that, VR is anyone's thing again. Smart move, MS.

Oculus Rift has two 1080p screens and in order to make that run they would probably have to lower the resolution to 720p or possibly lower. And since it will be available on PC aswell i think Xbox One will not be the best way to play this. I don't think VR will become big on consoles this gen sorry.(so not really a megaton for me).

oohh shizzzz. megaton for sure.

Praise the One.

So does it work on Xbox?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

You clearly didn't pay attention to how it works. It shows the game as a virtual screen in a virtual theater room. So it just makes it look like you're playing a game on a bigger screen than your TV, the games aren't played as a traditional VR experience. Honestly this announcement as well as the entire conference has been a joke so far. The more I hear of Oculus, the more I realize that the HTC Vive/Valve partnership is going to probably steamroll it, at least experience and quality wise.
