Actually RROD's in Elite XBox 360 is higher than normal XBox 360. It is now 1 in 2 failure rate. A friend of mine bought an Elite and it RROD like within 1 hour of playing BioShock. He took it back and got a PS3 instead and is another satisfied customer.
Every second person I have asked 20 people all up who purchased Elite. 50% experienced RROD within two weeks of using their Elites. Now they all have PS3's

...

There are more games that are exclusive to XBox 360 besides Halo 3? That are worth purchasing, none come to mind. Oh yeah they are all better versions on the PC.

Wow, you win Sony fanboy of the year....

To answer your question. No the RRoD issue is not gone. if it was you would see the 50 million dollar add campaign from MS stating that fact. That being said, it is better then it was. Not sure to what extent however. the 360 had two major problems. design and build quality. Design they have worked on. Build quality, I just have no information on. If they don't improve build quality, then there is a good chance that the same number of 360's will die, but it will just take a lot longer. Every time you turn your system on, you produce heat. This heating up and cooling off over time weakens poor solder joints. The design improvements reduces the amount of hear, but does not make better joints.

So one of two things is going to happen. Either then number has gone down (better design + better build quality), or the number will be relatively the same, yet take longer to break (still poor build quality).

If your a gambling man, the odds are it won't break. I would guess 1 in 10 at the moment, but that's just a guess.

How the hell you know this Bullshit. I bet you just made it up Mr MS fanboy, you claiming less than 10% failure rate. Next we will see someone else claiming 100% RROD free.

Here is a clue that you are the biggest Sony fanboy.... I am a sony supporter. Look at my threads. I have been called a Sony fanboy dozens of times. It's one thing to enjoy the products a company makes, it's another thing entirely to spout lies about it's competition.

I own a PS3, a 360, and a Wii. All of them have there advantages. I think the 360 has the least of them, but if that's the console you want, then that's the one you should get.

What??? TheRealMafoo an MS fanboy??? haha, that made me crack up, hahaha! TheRealMafoo is pro-pro-Sony and if you read other posts of his you would see that.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

I do not believe they are free of RRoD's. atm I still read people's stories about a RRoD. Almost every day I see a weblog of some guy who has an xbox 360 for a couple of months, sometimes over a year and suddenly a RRoD comes up.

It happened so much in the past tbh, I just refuse to believe that the problems are over. Tbh, it's a developing mistake and a complete redesign and replacement of the old ones would cost more than the 3-year warranty.

The 0% failure of the PS3 offcourse is nonsense, but the failure-rate somehow is ultra-low. The only question is: how long will your PS3 last, but that's another story.

I'm thinking of buying a 360 in the upcoming months.

I live in a country with no official support and I will have only 2 years of warranty (and this warranty will be in another town) so it's quite important to me to buy a console with no hardware problems.

So are the last ELITEs produced hardware problems free ?

Don't you think if MS had fixed the problem they would have made an announcement about it? It's hurting their sales and I don't think they like that at all. The truth is that, no. It can, and will, still happen. Whenever MS fixes it they will introduce a new model/design and will make sure people know it's fixed.

But on the positive side, it should be less frequent since the new Xbox consumes less power and so heat less.

Can you buy the 3-year replacement plan where you live? If so, just buy it and trade it in store when it breaks... or buy a PS3 (that is what I did, rofl).

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

No, a lot of people in the "my 360 is broked" thread at SA are still reporting that brand new elites RROD.

Microsoft suggests that the RROD issues are being fixed and are lower frequency, but we don't really know the frequency until the machines have been out for at least 6 months, perhaps even 12. We do know this -- you may get a failed DVD drive, you may get an RROD, and you'll likely end up getting some other elite manufactured at a different date when you send yours in for repair. So having a "new" elite doesn't protect you from having nasty, recurring problems.

And, hell, MS told us this problem was fixed twice before. Each time they tweaked their warranty.

[edit] It's also worth noting that, with the exception of the hard drive, the hardware in the Elite units ($450) is identical to the hardware in the arcade units ($280).  But, hey, you do get a $4 HDMI cable with the Elite package....

If you want to get ripped off and get an 100% RROD guaranteed XBox 360 that produces games seen on three year old PC's go ahead and buy one. Within three years every XBox 360 will need to be replaced.

Also within three years time there will either be a new XBox or MS will be making games for the PS3.

The fanboyism is strong with this one!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Wii has reportedly 1 to 2% failure rate.
PS3 is 0% failure on hardware. "If you argue this claim than you are trolling and should be banned for anti-Sony flaming"

Largely yes. You can be fairly confident of getting a capable console. The addition of a second heat sink and smaller chips have lowered risks.

Ignore Gazz, he's a fanboy.

That's bullcrap dude. None of you know just how bad RRoD was in the first place, nor do you know if it has a significantly smaller chance of occouring in the new models.

Also, your a bigger fanboy than he is.

Just imo, don't buy a 360 until MS announced the RRoD is fixed. If they never do, PS3 is a nice replacement.

The failure rate of the 360 is MUCH higher than the failure rate of other consoles.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Just buy the Elite. It's a great console with many great games.

You won't regret it.
Warranty is great so don't listen to these sony fanboys here.
PS3 has its own problems but you'd have to pay to fix it cause their warranty is only for one year.

LOL. You people are so funny... especially Rock_on_2008. That guy is a retard. I see broken ps3's on ebay all the time.

Sure one may like Mitsubishi Evo but it may not last as long as mini van. So will you buy a minivan? Buy the console which you want to play games on. Dont but a console cause it looks pretty and because of "may not break down". I've had a 360 since november 2006. No trace of RRoD ...
