Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Canada GM 'Splatoon sales are about half of what Mario Kart 8 sold during the same period!'

So now we see that yes, marketing was Nintendo's issue all along. lol

Pretty much.

Nintendo will find some other way to justify that its two most advertised games were among the best FW launches on the console. I'm not saying that they would have turned bombs into 2m+ sellers with a little more advertising, but I am saying that each and every one of their games would sell better with bigger ad campaigns. That's why so many other companies can turn out complete garbage and pull down big sales.

If Ninty isn't confident enough in a game to put some ad money behind it - they should just make another game. Every game (no matter how good) bombs when nobody knows about it.

Nice, deserves it. Seems like a really fun game. Will be getting it to play with my friend on his wii u soon

Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out

Ps4:110million

Xbox one :75 million( was 65)

Wii u: 20 milliion

Really

Edit: Cool you fixed the title

Great to see Nintendo's marketing pay off for their newest IP. Hope they keep this marketing for future games that will need it like Xenoblade X in the Americas and Europe.

OP deserves to be banned for a title like that.

USA FW for Mario Kart 8 was 415k according to VGC, if this translates for Splatoon, it would be like 200k FW (US only). Add that 150k from Japan, and probably another 100k from Europe and some more for the rest of the world... and we're basically at 500k (not including digital!). Amazing!

And we have to keep in mind that Splatoon seems to have great legs: 2nd week in Japan was above 60k and it barely dropped on UK charts, a rare feat for a Nintendo game there.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Mario Kart sold 375k first week in USA. half of that is 185-190k.

Close to that then... amazing anyway. TY for the info.

Interesting. With a good amount of marketing, some of Nintendo's other Wii U games could have done much better.
