Yeah, I want Retro to make the next Metroid. Unless it's 2D, then I'd like whoever made Fusion to make it seeing as, imo, that was the last great original 2D game.

I don't want Platinum making Metroid either, but I'd stop at wanting Saka making the next 2D Metroid. My vote is for Wayforward. Contra 4 proves that they completely understand what made those SNES games great. Not just the gameplay, but the tone. I think Fusion messed up the gameplay, while Zero Mission messed with the tone by mixing Prime elements. I think Wayforward could bring both back to Super Metroid levels. Even finally surpassing it.
As for 3D, I've been vocal about not wanting Retro doing another one. Funilly enough, looking at Splatoon's singleplayer mode is literally exactly the kind of gameplay I want from a 3D Metroid. I said ages ago that any of Nintendo's studios could do Metroid, even the Mario team. Splatoon is proof that, at least from a gameplay perspective, I was right. Same with Metroid Blast in Nintendo Land.
I have high hopes for a 3D Metroid based off these two examples, and they do not involve Retro. And I don't think they need to. They have the gameplay down. All they need now is the level design, which should be open world by now, and the atmosphere. And no Sakamoto.
...And absolutely no Sakamoto.
