It's not a foreign concept that some games end up being cancelled, even when they were in the middle of development and had a lot of public attention prior to release. Even then, when these games do get cancelled, it's fairly disappointing, as we miss out on what could've been an amazing final product.
What are some cancelled games that you wish had gotten released?
For me, it would have to be the official English release of Mother for the NES/Famicom.
This game today is now known as being the first game of the Mother series, also known as EarthBound in the U.S.
The game was going to be released as EarthBound in the NES, with the game completely translated and ready for release.
Unfortunately, due to the SNES coming very soon, and with RPGs not being too popular in the U.S. back then, the game's official released got cancelled at the very last moment.
Although Mother was never officially released in the States, an English ROM ended up surfacing around 1998.
The ROM was confirmed to be the official translation by Phil Sandhop, the English script writer for Mother, and the ROM was renamed "EarthBound Zero" in order to differentiate itself from "EarthBound" the only Mother game that was officially released in the states.
"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."
