Sony has the following sequels/remasters in development btw:

GoW IV
GoW III: R
Uncharted Trilogy collection
Uncharted 4
R & C reboot
TLOU2 (it was on an ex-developer's linkedin page)
Tearaway: Unfolded
Fat Princess Adventures
Gran Turismo 6

Yeah, Sony wouldn't dare to rely on sequels lol...

Since they also develop other and might I say big games than sequels as Horizon and the recently released Bloodborne they are doing a better job than Nintendo that is for sure, not to begin about Quantic Dream, Media Molecule or Sucker Punch, which have yet unknown projects.

The memory card argument is definitely irrelevant, only VITA OWNERS can consider them expensive because of all the NO GAEMS it has.. Prospects never take that into consideration before buying a console especially that its physical games' price is inferior than 3DS's.
And above all WIIU AND VITA don't deserve what happened to them, it's SONY and NINTENDO whom are to blame. Both consoles are great. support is definitely not.

sony has pretty much ditched thier own handheld and leave it to the third parties, nintendo on the other hand has been supportive to the wii u in most of what they can

In that case any console is great, support makes a console a great, otherwise the PS2 would have flopped, since it hardware wasn't all that special. A bad supported console is by defenition not a great console, a good piece of hardware at best like the Vita. The Wii U gets supported but it's hardware fails whereas it comes to the tablet and is overpriced when put against it's competitors.

Great discussion going guys... Does it really matter if a game is a sequel or new IP? Super Mario Galaxy 2 is literally SMG1 with different levels and new mechanics... Yet is a great game! It's not about the mascot/main character in the box, is about the experience and gameplay it offers. Success doesn't come from the amount of new characters created.

The failure of the Wii U is not because of the games. The problem was Nintendo's handling of everything that came before the games. Marketing, awareness, the (fucking stupid) name, and much more. But the games (sequels or new IPs) are not the problem.

If that was the case, the 3DS would be a huge failure and the Vita a success. But look how that turned out...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Sony didn't develop Bloodborne, From Software did.

What big games does Sony have this year? Do tell me... All I see is niche stuff. If you think the PS4 is a big success because of those games than you're horribly wrong.

To anyone who says that the Vita's overpriced memory card was not a factor in its failure, I have one question.
Did you do any downloading of anything? Nearly requiring an additional $100 drop to have more than 3-5 downloads/DLC on the memory card was a serious pain. I only own one physical release on my Vita, SFxT and I love my Vita, (Where else can I get my Disgaea on the go?) but I do have 15-20 downloaded ones, and I love the JRPG love, which would not be possible since many stores don't even carry Vita, well non overhyped ones, games a bigger memory card is needed.

To my beloved Wii U, Nintendo really dropped the ball during its first year, and are paining for it now. But even the PS4 is selling like hotcakes and they, themselves, are shocked as to why. Bloodborne and The Witcher are great games, the Order was just a glorified tech demo, so I think that the previous poster was correct in throwing in the Nintendoland comment on that one. Disgaea 5 and SF 5 are the only major releases I am anticipating for the PS4, both sequels.
I also say, don't count Nintendo dead yet, they have been in business for over 100 years, and in gaming for over 30, they obviously know what they are doing, even if they screw up from time to time.

Why hate systems that bring you great games?

PSN: Aceburg0413

XBOX Live: Sheep of Doom13

Nintendo:  SheepofDoom13

3DS FC:  3222 - 5562 - 9867

Vita deserves even less than it did. It was an expensive handheld with no games. it had little to no support from sony since launch. there's no point in using the memory cards as excuses for it's failure, it lacks games.

Wii U on the other hand has the best games and the lowest price of the 8th gen + free online. It's trully a console for gamers and deserved much more. It's only selling bad because of sony and microsoft false advertising and ilegal bribery of third parties so they skip Wii U. also, "Now the Wii U has better support, but where MS is getting crap for releasing sequels, Nintendo does seem to come away with it easily." You know it's a pathetic OP when the main "argument" is 100% BS. it's amazing how not even haters can find negative things about nintendo games, so they complain about most being sequels, wich bears no relevance to game quality.

Of course they do, I hope nobody tries arguing against that.

Another fail in your long resume. must be close to entering guiness.

Vita is bad cuz... memory cards?

There's a lot of reasons the Vita isn't doing so well, but memory cards would be pretty low down on that list. It's not doing well simply because 99% of the games it gets are very niche. Of course that means for those that enjoy those niches it is a fantastic console. But yeah, memory cards aren't the reason.

The low sales made it lost the 3rd party titles it got early on. In 2012-13, it got a lot of big games. I think there are two factors related to its failure:

- Price: the unit is fairly expensive and the memory cards only make it way worse. The public showed more than once that a portable console should not cost more than 200 bucks at launch.

- Dying market: mobile stole the market. It seems that people don't want to carry multiple devices and between a phone and a portable console, the first one is obviously much more important. Despite that, while playing a home console, you want a big budget experience, while on the go you want a fast game that you can play on intervals. Having a Vita, I can confirm that very few Vita (and 3DS) games actually demand a long session to make some progress, while mobile games allow the user to pass a stage in 1, 2 minutes.

I think that the best alternative for portable consoles it to release an hybrid phone/handheld, with physical controls in a phone form factor, like Xperia Play. The last one was a decent attempt, but it suffered because:

- Sony used an outdated SoC and specs in a gaming oriented device. When it launched, you could buy several phones that would play games better.

- It wasn't a PlayStation. The initial rumours were for a PS phone. It was just a Xperia phone with buttons. In the end, Sony didn't want to scrap the Vita, so that one was the PS device while they wouldn't go full fledge for the Xperia, that also never got exclusives like Uncharted or Killzone. It was just a glorified phone.

I would see a PS phone (not Xperia) as a good move. A sleed form factor and a decent SoC (Tegra X1) would make it an impressive machine. It shouldn't be branded as Xperia. It's not a succesful brand. It should be branded as PS and get exclusive games. Basically, Xperia Play branded as PS, without any mention to Xperia, with top phone hardware when it launches plus all the eclusive treatment that Vita got in the beginning.

This same logic could be used for NX as a hybrid phone/handheld. Price also becomes a no-factor, because phones are sold on contracts so you can put a US$ 600 hardware and it will end up at US$ 99/150 on a contract.
