Rastan on the C64, because you actually cant complete it without an action replay cart.

I can't belive it's true. And here I thought modern developers where lazy... these guys make EA or Ubisoft look good...

This just doesn't count as hard. This is bullshit.

Also on the C64, Asterix and the magic cauldron, one of the cauldron pieces was never placed in the game, and as such its also impossible to complete.

Then Creatures by Thalamus, had a jump on a later level that if missed would result in being permanently stuck and having to start the game over.

I know way too much random gaming trivia.

Spectrum version of Short Circuit features multiple game modes throughout levels, the last level is a sidescrolling jump/shoot game, that often times just goes on forever.

Some versions of jet set willy for multiple systems cannot be beaten due to missing items, an early version of monty on the run has the same issue.

Versions 1.0 and 1.1 of GT2 have a bug that makes the progression % text stop at 98.9% regardless of actual progression under some circumstances.

For PC, Ultima The Black Gate and the later Underworlds both had game-killing bugs, Underworlds was later patched.

An early version of Ikaruga for GC, that was sent to japanese reviewers could not be beaten because the boss's collision paramters were wrong.

I've accepted the fact that I will die before I will ever beat Battletoads and Ghosts 'n Goblins

King of Fighters at the arcade max difficulty. Nam 1975 was also pretty hard.

Probably one of the original Mega Man games.

So much info! I'll guess I know what to do for the rest of the day now! Thanks

Ninja Gaiden 1
Castlevania 1
The Adventures of Bayou Billy
Destination: Earthstar

All on the NES. I'm sure there are others, but that;s what comes to mind.

Oh yeah. Bayou Billy.  I got that came because it tried to do so much.  It had crazy variety but damn, it was hard. Especially the driving parts.  Would break my thumbs! I did beat it, though.  Probably the time in my life. Once, without the whip. That game. You die once and lose your powerups (whip, bullet proof vest, meat) and you're screwed.  It was either never die or die and start over.

I've never come close to beating it, to be honest.  Kudos to you, man!

I cannot decide between ThunderForce 4, Contra Hard Corps Uprising, or Ghosts and Goblins. Those three games were just punishing games.

Honorable mentions:

DK Country Returns

Otogi: Myth of Demons

Vectorman (both)

Altered Beast (somewhat for me)

Mega Man 2

Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels)

Halo Reach LASO

Again, I understand there are more, such as Ocarina of Time Master Quest, but the aforementioned are generally the first ones that come to mind.
