Hardest game you've ever played?

Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hardest game you've ever played?

One of the many great things about games is their difficulty. It pushes us to our limits, and makes us feel great when we accomplish those great feats. Sometimes however, a game goes too far, and we can experience things like a loss of patience, and frustration.

What is the hardest game you've ever played?

For me, it would have to be the original Castlevania on NES.

So many things make this game difficult, and are defining examples of "NES hard."

You have bottomless pits, enemies with devastating damage output, clunky controls, and did I mention bottomless pits?

A runner up for me would probably be Dark Souls, but I felt like that once you sank enough time in Dark Souls (about 1-2 hours), it was fairly smooth sailing, with one or two exceptions. One's thing for sure, I didn't find Dark Souls nowhere near as punishing as Castlevania.

Ninja Gaiden Black/Sigma was really hard, but it is probably some 3rd generation game for me.

I still own a copy of Castlevania II: Simon's Quest for NES, and that game is ass, especially with its difficulty.

bet: lost

I don't think I can remember the hardest I ever played right now, but the hardest I ever completed at least was probably Super Meat Boy. Edit: oh wait, actually probably the hardest game I've played is Contra 3. I don't remember ever getting through the third stage on the easiest difficulty. Edit²: Zelda 2 is insane too.

I Wanna Be the Guy most likely...

Funny, I was coming here to say Castlevania 3 and found you had posted 1 and another mentions 2. Definitely hard (and a bit cheap) games
Mega Man 1 was also tough. All modern games are easy by comparison.

I think this post wins the thread... ; )

As for me, the 1st thing that pops into mind is FF13. x (

On a more serious note, Battletoad.... O:

Ninja Gaiden 1
Castlevania 1
The Adventures of Bayou Billy
Destination: Earthstar

All on the NES. I'm sure there are others, but that;s what comes to mind.

Some random internet game where I died over 200 times before completing it.... though in all honesty.... I'll go Binding Blade. Fun fact, Roy is the worst lord ever.
