Forums - Sony Discussion - How Many First Party Remasters Has Sony Actually Done?

The mighty have not fallen one bit. Not only are they destroying the competition, they have released great first party games, and more importantly they have great third party support of incredible games. Thanks to a combination of 1st and 3rd party games (including indies and Japanese games), ps4 hasn't experienced a drought. The same thing cannot be said for the competitors. Unless you were referring to them as mighty who have fallen, since that would make sense both in terms of support and sales.

I am so tired of seeing people gripe about remasters. If you do not like them DO NOT BUY THEM. A lot of people (including me) LOVE REMASTERS. Its called a choice (bold concept eh?)

Yes and lets be honest, the ps4 is selling on hype, commercials that never show any actual gameplay and look like a movie trailer, and more casual gamers are buying it, who only buy a sports game Fifa/Madden/NBA game, call of duty and gta, and thats there line up all year every year.

It's not selling on hype. It's selling because it had a good launch and it's the favored brand over the brands. It's no different than how the PS1 and PS2 sold well.

It can only be selling off hype, the thing has no games!!

I've got to be honest, I'm loving watching people trying to turn re-releases into a negative. It's one of the most amusing hot-button forum topics of the moment. Not only does it reek of desperation but it literally makes no sense.

I don't think that's entirely fair. I'm cool with remasters on occasion, but not at the expense of actual new games. An overload of remasters can start to feel like padding after a while.

Could you at least try to give an actual credible criticism.

That's just a long running joke with PlayStation, he's not being 100% serious ;)

OT: I have no problem with 'Remasters' or remakes. I feel that it is just a good way of getting older games on the system I use.

If this was with PC, no one would care because PC gamers want a complete collection and access to games. I would love to be able to access all of PS3's catalogue on the PS4 so I see nothing wrong with devs releasing their older games again. And any extra polish is welcome :)

I really don't get why people are so eager to defend anti consumer policies.  Thank you Sony may I have another I guess.  If they want to do remakes, that's fine.  They can offer those remakes at a fair price, or actually make meaningful additions to the core experience.

Or you know, just keep releasing remakes so that the people who didn't get the chance to play it the first time around actually get to do so without buying another console.

Just because a game took less time and resources to make doesn't mean it should be priced much lower, or are you saying that price spent on a games production should reflect the retail value directly?

Have fun whining over gtav releasing at $400 then.

Believe it or not, games companies aren't here to entertain you, theyre here to make money. If a company re-releases an old game and makes some money on it, then they earn a profit, profit that keeps the company going and allows them to take risks.in the future on new IP's and having larger budgets for future games, so even if you think "they're ripping people off" what would you rather have. A company that re-release a game for $5 and go out of business a year later (and all games in development get scrapped) or a company that re-releases, makes.some nice bank from people who bought it (regardless of their reasons to) and kept the cpany afloat?

How dare a company even think about doing something profitable?? What disgusting behavior.

In the end, you don't get it because you don't *want* to get it. You have a set opinion on the matter and that's that, millions disagree, and as it happens those millions are the ones buying remasters, so the practice will continue.

And last but not least, remastering a game doesn't devalue the original game, sure it cost less to remaster than to make the original, but the company still had to make the original to begin with, so the remaster actually took the original effort and the remastering effort to make.

I'm not opposed to the concept of a remaster, as in re-releasing an old game to update it todays standards. However, 'remastering' a game just a couple years old just feels unnecesarry to me. There is not really a lot of improvement over the original to be made, so why release a remaster.

I can somewhat understand it if it releases on a different gen console, although I am a big supporter of backwards compatibility which is much better. I guess what bugs me most about it is that devs pretend these remasters are something else than a cross gen port. Because that's basically what they are.

Also, the don't like it don't buy it argument can be made for lots of things. You didn't have to buy Oblivion Horse Armour. Doesn't change the fact it was crappy DLC.

I don't think it's just a matter of Sony, but 3rd parties doing remasters as well. The remaster situation may not be such a big deal, but it sounds like they are going a bit overboard with them. I felt as if I would hear of at least of one remaster a week, which after awhile has me raising an eyebrow, but I guess I can't really complain. I just don't buy them.
