Forums - PC Discussion - Firaxis creative director of XCOM 2 explains why it's PC exclusive

Because they want me to pirate their game so, well Jake, congratulations on your success.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

But mod support? C'mon this really isn't the game that has a big mod community and I've checked.

I'm not on the complete inside know how of XCOM's community but who's to say there isn't going to be or is a mod community?, now that there's mod support fully from the start I'd expect mods to come in abundance, same with most games that offer/restrict modding anyway.

I never said that there isn't a mod community, I said that the mod community isn't that big and thus not really a reason for it not to release on consoles.
Just gonna quote the article again: "it would almost certainly be without support for mods, one of the games biggest selling points".

Now there are some type of games that just don't have much things to mod. XCOM is one of them.

Maybe XCom doesn't much many mods but there's one that deserves attention: The Long War.

It completely changes the game offering a whole new and longer campaign, the option to have up to twelve soldiers on your squad and many other things.

http://www.nexusmods.com/xcom/mods/88/?

Some of the changes in this mod include:

  • An extended campaign requiring far more missions to complete
  • Tactical missions that allow up to twelve XCom soldiers per mission with the right upgrades
  • Eight soldier classes: Infantry, Assault, Sniper, Scout, Gunner, Rocketeer, Medic and Engineer, and eight MEC classes: Valkyrie, Marauder, Jaeger, Pathfinder, Goliath, Archer, Guardian and Shogun
  • English-accent voicepacks for soldiers from England, Australia and several other nations
  • New and modified perks, including Ranger, Sapper, HEAT Warheads, Lock N' Load, Fire in the Hole, Hit and Run, and Javelin Rockets
  • New and modified technologies, including Xenopsionics, Alien Biocybernetics, Pulse Lasers, Gauss Weapons and Advanced Aerospace Concepts, and many new foundry projects
  • Five tiers of XCOM weaponry, many new armors and small items and S.H.I.V.s that can be equipped with perk-granting small items! See some of the new weapons here.
  • Earlier access to psionics and an expanded psionics tree
  • A system of commissioning and promoting XCOM officers who provide bonuses to your entire squad during missions (replaces the Enemy Within medals system)
  • Overhauled interception game, with five new UFO classes such as the Fighter, Raider and Harvester, as well as six interceptors per continent, foundry projects to upgrade your aircraft, individualized pilot names and pilot experience, and the Stingray Missile weapon system
  • Overhauled strategy game, in which the aliens gather resources and conduct research -- efforts XCOM must interdict if it hopes to save humanity. XCOM can now retake countries by finding and conquering alien bases in those countries. Help council countries defend themselves by fulfilling their requests for alien technology!
  • Aliens and EXALT forces grow tougher over time, gaining stats and perks
  • New weapons for XCOM soldiers
  • Soldiers rest after each mission, requiring the player to build a much deeper roster of soldiers
  • Modified Second Wave options to support longer campaigns

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Good on them for sticking to their guns, this will surely benefit both versions. I Guess the console version maybe further away then I thought

I just hope it runs on my MacBook Pro.

He says it himself 'developing for multiple platforms simultaneously just isn't something Firaxis can do'

If they could do it back then, why can't they now? Especially since the current gen consoles are easier to develop for (especially PS4 over PS3).

It's not like porting was mader much easier which was what many touted for this gen and then we got some messed up ports/late ports, I wouldn't say it's easy peasy, there's some devs out there that just stick with PC and don't touch consoles because it's something else to dev for, though those can be small in number, those people definitely exist.

I honestly don't get fully why they aren't but as they say in the article for this time they can't do both, arguing that they can when we aren't the devs doesn't really get anone else the game in the end which is why I'm not really going to argue it much further, especially with the table pointing it out, I know they've done it before and the "they'll do it again" that would get tacked on but to be real, consoles weren't exactly their target market the whole time.

There's solid concrete confirmation that they're going to do a console port?, afaik they said "if", if universally doesn't translate to "will" or "100%", they might do a port later on but we don't know that yet.

They are just tot lazy to write a good and user friendly UI.

No confirmation yet I'm just assuming.... theres really no logic on them skipping consoles completely, they'll sell well over 1m if its released in the next 12months and the systems are easier to manage then PS3/360 which they've already worked with. Its clear though that they don't want to compromise the PC version, specifically the UI... Once its out I'm sure they'll begin porting, but guess we'll wait and see. I wouldn't be surprised if MS and Sony are each fighting to grab this as an exclusive for their platforms, no way they'll let such an easy seller slip away, especially with how they've both been throwing money and assistence at third party teams this gen.
