Forums - Gaming Discussion - I pray the Steam Machine becomes a competitive console.

So is there no delete function here?

Steam machine really isn't a console. In reality it's just Steam OS, and it is attempting to be an alternative to Windows for gaming.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

It's Steam OS, a game dedicated OS, running on its own standalone hardware. So technically it kind of is a console, but it's more of a HTPC.

Though if other companies do like Alienware and release a Windows 8.1 and Steam OS version of the same hardware for roughly the same price, you may as well get the Windows 8.1 version for the license and dual boot Steam OS. Or just have Windows 8 autorun Steam in Big Picture mode on boot.

FWIW, Steam Big Picture seemed almost like a side project initially, and it still worked better than the Xbox One or PS4 GUIs from a practicality standpoint.

Steam machines are not directly competing with consoles and they are not selling at mainstream prices either. I'm inclined to believe that the idea that the console market will "fail" stems from wishful thinking if one choses to ignore the tens of millions of devices and games that have been sold in less than three years.

For 3 generations in a row, it has been Nintendo VS Playstation VS Xbox. To me, this generation is the worst out of all generations for gaming. I have never had any reasons to dislike gaming in my life until now. I enjoy the Wii U, but that is not to say it has some HUGE issues with the console, don't get me wrong. So, I have been getting into PC gaming much more simply because they are doing it right and consoles are doing it wrong. I don't play PC because I want to see an extra few frames a second just so I can brag to "console peasents" because I am "Master race". No, none of that. I enjoy it simply because I don't have to be in constant fire of which console is better. I don't need to pray which game comes to my console. I don't need to have any of the problems with this generation. If the Steam Machine is a console killer, it will be a wake-up call for all 3 companies that they ALL need to get their act together.

Mark my words, if it stays at just these 3 companies with dominant consoles next generation, I feel the game market doesn't go a decade without crashing from today. I am getting sick of the crap going on in the game industry, and we need a console to save it. That's my opinion at least.

So basically you allowed the internet to decide whether or not you can enjoy a console purchase?

You do realise console gaming has been like that, ever since any sort of competition existed right ( I.e Sega vs Nintendo )?

1) This generation is the worst because fans argue about which console is better and they fight about which games come to their consoles or not and console companies are to blame for this.

2) ALL games come to PC so you don't have to worry about which games come or not.

3) The success of Steambox would make a "wake-up all" for console companies so that they control what their fans argue about? (those are the issues with this generation you are complaining about in OP, nothing more)

Those are some weird correlations, false premise (all games come to PC so no need to worry) and puzzling notions of cause and effect you got there.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:
