Forums - Politics Discussion - Two Man Arrested For "Man Spreading" In New York!

This was going to happen sooner or later.

In all seriousness, this appears to be at least as much of a police issue as anything else. The NYPD has been less than renowned by New York residents the past couple of years. It's entirely possible the officers wanted to arrest these two for unrelated reasons and simply used "manspreading" as an excuse to do so. Especially since subways aren't usually very crowded that time of night.

So I'm not going to blame feminism for this case in particular.

And for those with little experience with New York's subways: the seats aren't small, but are quite hard and have a weird curve in them. Every seat is indented downwards, meaning it is virtually impossible not to take up, say 20% of another seat. You either take 1 or 2. And if you are going to be sitting for a long time in a quiet time of the day, taking two seats may seem reasonable. I personally prefer standing, but it's very much a matter of personal comfort.

Love and tolerate.

That's flat out ridiculous. And the term "manspreading" is really sexist, which is ironic seeing how it originated. This is yet another case of something considered bad or negative behavior in society being blamed on males; as if women don't take up space on seats with their shopping bags, purse, clothing etc.

For me, when I ride the subway, I can't sit with my legs completely shut, if there is someone sitting opposite me, we'll be touching legs and knees since I'm kinda tall.
I try to take up as little space as possible, I don't put my stuff in the adjacent seat if there are a lot of people, I give my seat to the elderly, pregnant women, children with the parents or handicapped, I can sit in such a way that I take up more space when there are few people on the train.

This is not something that the police should be involved in at all, being arrested for this is ridiculous. And that term is still incredibly sexist towards men, I guess this is what equality looks like to some.

This 1,000 times over!

Woah.
