Not as great as Noctis and Stella so far. Big deal indeed when that is coming from the very first trailer.

Not a big deal to me. And you know next to nothing about Luna, and how she changed from Stella's character. Other than the fact that the party scene has been removed. Who's Luna exactly? What is her role in the story? Nobody knows yet. Could be good. Good be better even than what Stella was. Could be worse. We'll learn more about it as time goes by. I try to keep an open mind.

As I said before, Stella is more symbollic of the significant changes that have happened since the name change. Whether the changes are better or worse is up for debate, but the point is it's not the game people were anticipating or the one promised to people from the earlier trailers and interviews.

Since the name change I suspect they've decided to "mainstream" the game ideas rather than staying true to the original artistic design spec to broaden its appeal. They did this with 12 for instance when they completely changed and introduced two new main characters to appeal to "younger" demographics. In that game it felt very forced as they had no significance to the plot. The worry is that the changes will from Versus to XV will cause a similar effect.

Please list actual examples to support this statement (Stella -> Luna isn't an example).

That's just my hunch based on the past (specifically FFXII), and the different focus and presentation of the modern trailers. They've gone from dark, emotional and brooding to light, fun and upbeat. The music, art-style and character interactions point to a lighter and more upbeat game than the older trailers did. The new trailers (and demo) are now more in line with recent Final Fantasy titles in mood than Versus ever was.

Tabata has also admitted that Versus and XV are different games. The changes that have been made up to this point do suggest a more mainstream presentation.

There is virtually no change at all to the music and the "art style" changes point more to the ability of the platform to render more. Things last generation were often darker to help cover some of the inability to show HQ environments and systems.

We shall get to see more soon I hope. We already know the portion you play in the demo isn't actually in the game, so there's a lot we haven't seen.

That doesn't explain why the cut scenes were darker in art-style, it's not like their were any hardware limitations there. The music they've used in recent presentations is certainly a lot more upbeat than the previous trailers.

Personally, I hope I'm completely wrong, E3 will come round and they'll show some cool new stuff or elements that make all the changes make sense.

What? How were they darker? They're the same tone they were from the start.

Give examples if I'm wrong.

Have you even been following this game from the start??

This is becoming really tiredsome.. If you just look at the freaking trailers side by side you'll see that the Vesus XIII trailers was more dark, moody, more gothic, it was the Versus compared to FFXIII which was brighter.

The following pretty much sums up my thoughts.

So you base this on the fact that most of what was shown of Versus back then was scenes during the attack after the party where you meet Stella, and because the new trailers don't use the Somnus and Omnis Lacrima  themes? xD

Most of those scenes are still in XV, still during the night. Some of them have now been rendered in-engine instead of CGI but their tone is still the same.
Back then, we had barely any footage of the game. Seems like you and this guy from the video expected the whole game to take place during the night, in that one city that looks a bit gothic.

I don't see this change of tone you speak of. What I see though is a lot of footage that aren't as dark as those scenes, because it's a Final Fantasy game, not Batman, and not everything will take place during the night.

I will leave you with these pictures from when the game was still Versus...

No, if you've been following the entire discussion, I don't base it on nighttime and during that attack.. I was hoping that example would shed some light, but too bad you don't see it.

Too bad I don't see it?

Nah. Too bad you look into things way too much. It must be difficult to enjoy any Final Fantasy game, this way.

Do you even get the point of this thread? This is pointless if you don't, but for the sake of things here let me repeat what was said in the OP. The original concept of this game that got people intrigued in the first place is gone, and If you're oblivious to all the changes up till now then it won't effect you. So yeah, too bad for you, you could've known how epic Versus would've become.

Now I can't fathom how you don't see the differences in the mood of the game. That is a mystery, but if you're gonna nitpic sutble things at least do it that it would make relative sense. I mean, it's a no brainer that the overwrold would look vast and colorful. Do you expect nature to look gothic? /facepalm

The city in which those "gothic" scenes take place are still pretty much the same. You're blowing shit out of proportions, as far as I see it.

As for the mood, we barely had anything to base anything on when the game was Versus, and they used the same scenes over and over in every trailers. Giving you the idea that the whole game was going to be like this. Well, sorry... It doesn't all take place in that one city, during that one night.
