Forums - PC Discussion - 980Ti worth it?

Well the 908Ti looks pretty good, but if I were you I would wait until everything is more calm to buy something. Wait until AMd releases the full 300 series.

IMO I would buy the new AMD card since AMD is better for OpenCL (i like to do computing stuff) and also will benefit a lot more from Direct X 12 since it will have a better implementation. If I remember well the current Nvidia cards are Tier 2 implementation and the 300 series will be Tier 3.

Maybe this one.

Ground up LN2 support, 3x 8pin PCIE power, what a beast.

its because its intended to be used with LN2..

Proper benchmarks and info on the Fury X probably out in two days, looks to be a proper contender against the 980Ti. I guess it comes down to OC, heat and noise and pricing for me.
Still not too keen on being limited to 4GB of memory, HBM or no, but we'll see!

I got confused by the VGA/DVI (can't tell) port. But the point still stands ;)

Early glances of benchmarks and results are not that promising for the Fury X. It appears to be limited in performance by its low amount of VRAM at higher resolutions and it has huge dips in performance above 1080p, it seems. It also appears to overclock really poorly, and even if drivers improve and voltage issues are fixed; OC possibilities will not go up the 100-200% required to keep up with a OC 980Ti, it even appears to fall behind the OC 980GTX in some cases when OC'd.
Considering that price will be roughly the same, the wattage is higher, drivers are famously worse, it overclocks worse and even gets beaten by a stock 980Ti at what appears to be most marks and I'll be gaming @ 1440p; it doesn't look like the Fury X is my card, especially for a rig that is to last several years, the 4GB of memory will be too limiting, regardless of how fast it is.

Gonna read some more reviews and benchmarks when I get home from work at eight tonight but it's not looking good for AMD; a super low temperature on its own is not a good enough reason to purchase a GPU and the performance is all over the place (and the OC benchmarks are barely any better than stock, while the 980Ti shows drastic improvements when OC'd).

Will keep my eyes and ears open but it does look to be settled for me.

Get a 980Ti, end of the story.

And if you can (it's more expensive than a regular 980Ti) and plan to overclock, get a Gigabyte G1 http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GTX_980_Ti_G1_Gaming/

It's not fast, it's a rocket that destroys a TitanX.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Yep, 980 Ti wins easily. Happy Witcher 3. ;)

So I'll be getting a Gigabyte G1 980 Ti, now all that remains is the shopping!!!
