Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony needs their own Amiibos, this is why

There aren't many opinions on it, but apparently most people are against it rather than for it, Sony and Xbox fans.

Kids friendly IPs:

Ape Escape, Ratched & Clank, Sly Cooper, Knack, Puppeteer, Everybodys golf, Jack & Daxter, Journey, Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Little big Planet, the Tommorow Children, Loco Roco, Eyepet, Buzz!, Ico, Toro Inoue, Dark Cloud, Mister Mosquito, Devil Dice, Alundra, Medievil, Bird from Talkman and Robot fromPlayroom and many other IPs

other IPs they could work on getting figures released: Crash Bandicoot, Spyro

they should bring out a new Playstation allstars to include characters from the games above and update their current games on ps4, ps3 and vita to implement their amiibo DLC. Mature IP themed figures could also come out for Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War, Freedom Wars or Bloodborne and so on.

I think it could make Sony tons of Money and give an opertunity for fan service of dead IPs, why leaving everything for Nintendo, Disney and Activision if sony has great IPs and fans themselfs?

opinions?

They don't really have the same mascot brand power.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.

Id rather Sony focused on games rather than toys. I mean just look at Nintendos game line up, maybe if they put as much effort into funding some more games rather than toys they would be dead last this gen. I'm talking about consoles of course before some handheld warrior shoots me down.

The Wii U was already dead last before amiibo was even a thing. More Nintendo games aren't going to save it, as it's clear third parties are the real draw here.

Edit: Not that this is on topic or anything.

Yeah but the amiibos were announced long before they actually released. In saying that though Nintendo were probably thinking if they take off it may make their console more popular and create more sales.

I highly doubt that. Amiibo don't really sell systems, and I'm pretty sure Nintendo knows that.

And it's not like thinking about something detracts from the production of what you're working on. Amiibo were officially announced at E3 2014 and launched November of the same year. It's not that big of a gap. It was clear in 2012 that Wii U was a flop, and I don't think they even started talking about NFCs until late 2013.

Anyways, their game output has been fine. They're one company. What's missing isn't 1st party, it's 3rd party.

Wasn't 2012 not a bad year since it launched around xmas? anyways enough of this xD

It launched in November throughout the world, with the exception of Japan where it launched in December. Even with it launching during the holidays, sales were still well under expectations.

But yeah, this is extremely off topic now.

I agree that a new Playstation Battle Royale should come out but not the amiibo bull$

and? There are several amiibos that have little brand appeal, but that doesn't stop fans from collecting all of the line.

The key aspect to remember is that there has to be something to pull the initial weight. The less known figurines from the various amiibo waves benefited from the brand power of the most popular IPs, plus the appeal of the Super Smash Bros. series itself. So the argument will inevitably lead back to PSABR and that doesn't make a good case for Sony.

If this type of thing were to happen, they'd launch Sony IPs alongside some of their better known characters (Cloud, Crash, Snake, etc.) to pull that initial weight. At least, that's the only feasible way in my mind. That and some actually worthwhile game interaction (which is debateable with the amiibos).
