Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony needs their own Amiibos, this is why

Kids friendly IPs:

Ape Escape, Ratched & Clank, Sly Cooper, Knack, Puppeteer, Everybodys golf, Jack & Daxter, Journey, Tearaway, Gravity Rush, Little big Planet, the Tommorow Children, Loco Roco, Eyepet, Buzz!, Ico, Toro Inoue, Dark Cloud, Mister Mosquito, Devil Dice, Alundra, Medievil, Bird from Talkman and Robot fromPlayroom and many other IPs

other IPs they could work on getting figures released: Crash Bandicoot, Spyro

they should bring out a new Playstation allstars to include characters from the games above and update their current games on ps4, ps3 and vita to implement their amiibo DLC. Mature IP themed figures could also come out for Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War, Freedom Wars or Bloodborne and so on.

I think it could make Sony tons of Money and give an opertunity for fan service of dead IPs, why leaving everything for Nintendo, Disney and Activision if sony has great IPs and fans themselfs?

opinions?

The difference between Nintendo and Sony, is that Sony has a bunch of IPs that are beloved to some fans but those IPs were only used once or twice, look at medievil a PS1 game that got no sequels in other generations, the same happened with a lot of other IPS (Like the Legend of Dragoon), so in other words their IPs are not that popular

with Nintendo however, they have been using those IPs every generation and they are some of the most popular characters in gaming because of it, so it makes sense making money out of the popularity of those characters.

that being said even if they had amiibos i wouldn't buy them, since i don't really like the concept of buying something that is essentially "unknown future DLC", and if i want an action figure i would spend some extra cash and get a proper one.

Sony already really botched the handling of PSASBR systematically from the moment development started. I don't trust them to make a PSAS2 anytime soon, especially with their first party teams struggling to develop content on time as it is.

Plus, PlayStation NFC figs would just further saturate the market. That's even if they'd sell; PS4 fans aren't nearly as loyal as Nintendo fans, with a strong portion of the American fans (the strongest market for NFC figs) being transfers from the 360 who know nothing of any of the games you mentioned. I'd probably buy some of them if the NFC was done right, but again, I don't necessarily trust Sony right now to do anything unique or valuable for the figs with their past few years of history.

If you told me this in 2013 I'd be on board though.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

Knack Amiibo *shudders*

But for the rest, might be a good idea. Sony needs to ramp up it's old platforming IP's though.

I don't think Sony's IP's have broad enough appeal to warrant something like that. At least in the way Nintendo is doing it.

Having said that. I'd buy a Parappa The Rapper figure lol

They need to stay away from toys and gimmicks. There are already Disney and Activision toys on their platform, LEGO is coming soon, there is enough for kids to buy.
They might look into licensing to one of those companies, that's about it.

I think that the problem is that Sony does not own totally half of those franchises meanwhile nintendo owns like 90% of the super smash rooster and stuff that are made into amiibo.

It would be awesome to have figurines of those franchises again in Sony but some franchises like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot are owned by activision, the one behind skylanders. Even they have a Spyro figurine (pretty horrible design imo) and well Crash is so dead by now :(.

How many of those could sell figures on brand power alone?

-LBP
-Ratchet and Clank
-...?

Thats about it I think. Hell, I don't even know what half of those are... I don't think that they would be able to handle a system similar to amiibo with any real success.

I'd put up with sony doing some amiibo bullshit if it meant they'd make a new Parappa Game.

They don't seem to use thier Kid Friendly IP's often enough though and if they do that it's copying.
They should copy the already copied concept  of Skylanders (Disney Infinity, Lego) where they are all for 1 specific game, if anything.

I don't think they need it anyway, since PS is doing very well and doesn't seem like it will change at least until next gen.  Like many said, most of those are IP's they no longer use.
