Obsidian teasing something for TGA's

Likely multi-platform but I'm interested either way.

The ads on their site are giving me strong Fallout vibes, especially the version of the ad with the Spacer's Choice gun. Maybe after Bethesda refused to let Obsidian make Fallout New Orleans like they wanted to, they said "F it" and decided to make a new IP that feels alot like Fallout. I really hope MS paid Take-Two for console exclusivity on this one, would be nice to get another 2019 Xbox exclusive, because right now it seems like we may only get 3 games for 2018 since it's looking like FM8 got pushed to next gen (Crackdown, Ori 2, and Gears 5). And I really hope this is a 3D RPG instead of isometric.

Battletoads is suposed to launch in 2019 and we still wait for Ashen.

Sorry for my bad english

I don't care if Obsidian's new game is multiplatform but this will be a good opportunity to see what they can do with a proper budget.

Beat Rise of the Tomb Raider yesterday. Here are some of my impressions:

Overall I'm a tad disappointed.
Story was worse than TR reboot.
Environments were pretty same-ish throughout the game
I saw a lot more glitches on my playtrough
Game was much easier

In total this barely gets a 9/10 from me. Tomb Raider Definitive is a 9.5/10 in comparison.

I'm going to play through the DLCs next. I didn't expect it but it will surely break into my most played X1 titles. Already spent 22 hours and there is still some misc stuff left to do in the main game.

Yeah, neither Shadow nor Rise is as good as Tomb Raider (2013) sadly.

RotTR story started nicely but towards the end it became lame & uninspired. Like a bad action/adventure Hollywood movie.

I liked the game very much though. Never played those other TR games so I can't compare. I'd like to play Shadow but I haven't got time for that now.

Yeah.
You only get to interact with 5 other people throughout the whole game (Jonah, Jacob, Sofia, Ana, Konstantin). With Sofia/Jacob and Ana/Konstantin basically being only one entity each. There's usually more than that in every other 6 hour game.
Ana and Konstantin (the antagonists) were just poor. Boring, cliché and not really a threat.

The big advantage of TR reboot was that you could see how Lara evolved from being a regular girl to becoming a survivor. You could see so many of her emotions during every scene, which carried the whole experience. You always wanted to see how it continues. In RotTR it's just more of going from A to B with barely any motivation.

Enemy variety was also pretty poor. At one point there was a flame thrower enemy. He never appeared again in the game. I only encountered him once more after beathing the game.
The other enemies were pretty much copy pasted from the reboot. Soldiers are soldiers and the Deathless Ones (the only challenging enemies) are basically like the Stormguard enemies.

Well, another bad game movie adaptation, Lol.

That doesn't give me hope for a good Gears movie.

I guess the question now is: with the internet changing culture so much, is internet revisionism going to end up changing the actual opinions of the mainstream?

Cause I can say with 100% confidence Fallout New Vegas was NOT the most beloved Fallout game, that was Fallout 3.

Honestly if we talk about the mainstream alone than I have no doubt the most beloved Fallout game was actually 4.

The divisiveness of the that game only exists in the hardcore bubble I highly suspect. Outside that it was reviewed positively and did ridiculous sales numbers.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Hm, I'd disagree there. I think Fallout 3 gets a credit for being people's first Western RPG that, oddly enough, games like Oblivion don't really get anymore (probably because it was replaced so quickly by a "mainline" game and sold slightly less). Fallout 4's critic reviews are quite a bit lower than Fallout 3's too, and I think that Fallout 4 was one of the first times where the casual fanbase actually complained about "casualization" in a mainstream game.

Then again, casual fans are still fans and not just casuals in general. In that respect it's a hard comparison anyways, Fallout 4 sold so much and it's audience is so expanded compared to 3's!

Fair points, and I get where you're coming from

Though about critic scores, despite F4 scoring a few points lower, 87/88 is nothing to scoff at. Just recently Spiderman got an 87. Farcry 5 got 81. These are games that casuals (or casual fans, as you say), absolutely ate up.

On Xbox's "most played" charts , the game is still regularly in there, despite being three year old single player game (for comparison it's above sea of thieves right now which is gaas game with 5 million players, and designed specifically to keep players playing for a long time, as Fallout 4 isnt. Gears 4 and Halo 5 are lower too). The game appears on and off in UK's sales charts too. The game of the year edition that came out summer of last year still retails at the full fat 60 bucks after a year and a half.

When a single player game has this much legs, I think we can conclude that a lot of people really like the game.

Though this is just my viewpoint. I think you have a good argument too.

Ah, fairs fair

It's a little ridiculous, like I said, of a comparison anyways. I was trying to reply to a tweet or post someone linked about how Fallout New Vegas is now most likely the most beloved game in the series so the Obsidian acquisition is a big deal? I can't seem to find it as I write this post with ctrl f ... that's odd. But yeah, when you're talking about a franchise as big as Fallout, figuring out the most beloved game is kind of a hard task.

I mean ... at least you could argue Fallout New Vegas and 3 have a bit of a similar audience and even their reach was surprisingly close considering New Vegas was a "spin-off". 4 is just so much more massive than 3 .... and like you said, it's constantly selling. It's much more fair to say people continually like that, because it's sales are consistent, versus a game that just sells a lot and then gets panned, as you say . Plus, it's basically the Skyrim of this generation. Those sales don't lie.

It's bizarre how popular Fallout 4 is and because of it (oh and 76 of course) I don't have much hope for the series anymore. But then again, mainstream and popularity doesn't always mean quality. That sad excuse of a story.. just... geez..

After this Fallout 76 reviewers wouldn't give Fallout 4 a free pass with all its shortcomings and it wouldn't even reach 80.
