Xbox One May 2018 Update Adds Game Groups

Microsoft's next Xbox One software update is due to be released next month. The appropriately titled May Update will include several improvements and new features, such as game and app groups, the ability to trim video clips without Upload Studio, more refresh rate options, and improvements in a few areas. Alpha Insiders may have already received this update as it started rolling out to those players over the weekend, but for everybody else, more details on each of the features can be found below.

Game and App Groups

A new feature has been added to Pins: Groups. Here, players can create multiple collections that include anything from the My games & apps section of the dashboard. Players can then give the groups unique names, order them as they wish, and add them to the Home section. They will appear in the Guide, Home, and My games & apps sections of the dashboard and, because they're tied to individual Xbox Live accounts, they'll automatically sync across all consoles on which that gamertag is found. Microsoft has already set up a group for those who can already use the feature that includes all of their pins. Not all alpha members have this feature right now and it will "gradually roll out [...] over time".

A New Refresh Rate

One of the things Microsoft added in April was a variable refresh rate. For May, they're adding support for gaming monitors and televisions that use a 120Hz refresh rate while in 1080p and 1440p output resolutions. This can be changed in the Display & Sound section of the settings, under Video Output.

Trimming Video Clips Without Upload Studio

Players can now trim their captured video clips directly in the Guide, so there is no longer any need to use Upload Studio when all you wish to do is alter the length of your video.

Improved Family Settings

Microsoft has added a "Details" page to the consoles family settings. This page includes all of the family settings for the console and allows parents to manage them easily in one place. Microsoft will also flag important settings that have been turned off or they feel need attention. There will still be some settings, like activity reports and screen time limits, that can only be found through the website, and there will be links provided for parents to set these up.

Modernised Xbox Accessories App

The Xbox Accessories app has been modernised so that players can navigate it more easily. It also now looks and feels more consistent with the Xbox One dashboard.

Improved Button Commands

Some of the dashboard button commands have been changed. The View button can now be used on Home to let players reorder blocks or items within Groups. While on the main tab of the Guide, pressing View will now display additional capture options too. Finally, if players group their My games & apps collections by letter, they'll need to select a letter to be able to view all of their groups.

The team has promised that they'll have a lot more to show players during E3, perhaps even at their presentation, which will happen at 9:00 pm BST on Sunday, June 10th. Keep your eyes peeled on TA during the show for all of the latest E3 news.

Yay Groups!!!!!!
Finally a way to better sort my games on the console. I've about 280 installed right now with 230 on the ready to install list.
Definitely gonna make an indie group and a .... AAA group or whatever I'm gonna call it.
Maybe even sorted by genre. The possibilities are endless.

I think that article about the Xbox future about sums up what we have all been thinking for a while now, Nice to see that they heard it from several sources pointing to it.

As we have been speaking about for months with Phil's promotion and Booty joining up all the projects that get green lit since then and in this next year are all all going to be for the next-gen and looking at launch window 2020 and the following year at the earliest,

I think one of the biggest things they need to change going forward is the marketing as it's been very weak and I've hardly seen any of it when you compare it to what Sony have been doing I see their games or console ads like 5 times when I'm in the pub on Friday nights on Sports/Music channels and on billboards and on sides of buses yet I can't recall seeing any Xbox ads since Gears 4 launch.

*Snip*

I'm definitely going to create a "Complete 100%" and a Complete - Not unlocked all Achievements" groups to fully see what I have finished and then I can just have a list of games that I haven't started and If I feel like clearing out some achievements from games I'm completed I can browse through into it :)

There’s a thread on era about the thurrott post. Matt a reliable insider who has been kinda down on Xbox in the past. Saying things like keep expectations low for e3 2017, and as recent as November of last year said the Xbox budget was low confirmed thurrotts article. Then later when someone said that they hope Sony responds by dropping cash too he said paraphrasing here ‘ would be very surprising for that to happen’.

His posts are 259 and 445 I believe.

Considering Matt’s previous statements and his usual low expectations to anything Xbox I’m pretty damn excited for what’s instore for e3 and beyond.

Halo MCC will sell 5+ million copies(including digital)

halo 5 will sell 10 million copies(including digital)

x1 will pass ps4 in USA, and UK.

I mean what exactly do Sony need to "drop cash" for? They're in the driver's seat. They got high quality games dropping left, right, and center. All they need to do is keep the course of what they're already doing, and they'll be more than fine.

Kinda dumb that people act like halo 5 bombed. Not only did it sell 5 million copies in its first 3 months but it’s still trucking along on the most played chart. In the US it’s ahead of these big games

Battlefield 1- came out 1 year later
Battlefront 2- came out 2 years later
Assassin s creed origins- 2 years later

I know but the general consensus is that Sony is always steadily dropping more money into gaming than Xbox. The shear number of studios they have, plus their 3rd party investments, and marketing investments seams to dwarf xbox’s. So for Xbox to suddenly be dumping more money into Xbox than Sony and seemingly a lot more would be very surprising.

Link please?

I really hope its true. In addition to MS delivering better consoles with better content, Sony competes harder when MS is strong.
