I'd say Gears 4 is definitely possible for 2018, especially with someone like Rod but I hope it isn't, I want them to take their time there too, Gears 4 was great but now they have to add something new and fresh to it.

Shika brings up a good point about key people leaving 343, I've noticed that and a few staff changing roles in 343, I've heard the engine rumour but that was just from a Neogaf user, I don't know where he got it from but it was basically that 343 is making some big changes to their engine I think?

I doubt Halo 6 would release in 2020 though, Microsoft likely wouldn't let them go that long unless they have some major Halo spin-offs to go in between, I also really doubt that Gears 5 and Halo 6 would release in the same year, unless one title launches in Late Q1 - Early Q2 and the other releases Late Q3 - Early Q4 but I don't see that happening either so who knows

Whoever the new Lead Writer is will likely need more time than a year too considering Brian was only removed late this year, unless we want to end up with a Destiny situation but without a Gears title or Halo title in 2018, Microsoft is going to need some major title to fill their place otherwise we'll probably end up with another shitty year.

If only Fable IV was in development....

It's possible that it is or at least I like to think it is :) I guess for a 2018 release for it they would of had to of got a new studio on it not long after they shut down Lionhead.

Whilst I know developers are different the Gears series has been on shorter cycles than Halo and they made the Gears Ultimate along with Gears 4 from the ground up in 2 years 9 months maybe less as development probably didn't start as soon as MS got the rights for it but I were persuming Halo 6 hits in 2019 then they won't release Gears 5 at the same time and leaving it a year would mean 4 year cycle which seems quite long unless they are working on something inbetween to release in 2018.

If MS haven't got Gears 5 (or Halo 6) ready for holiday 2018 they need to have some big new shooter IP imo as whilst FH4 can carry them in Europe it doesn't have as much power in the US to be the main focus of holiday 2018. I also don't see them remastering Halo 3 anniversary for 2018 either with the recent announcment of fixing MCC and X enhanced mode but we did see that Phil said he signed some new IP deals that were 2-3 years away so maybe there is a potential bit hitter amongst them due for 2018 along with Recore 2 or something :)

Why do you think MS needs a shooter game so bad? Maybe they could try something a little bit different in the next holiday season?

This one makes perfect sense given the original was only on PS and making sequels as standalones is never a good idea unless you're a big name. It's the Tales series I am confused by. ToV performed rather nicely on the previous Xbox, so I am confused as to why they didn't try to go multiplat with that series, which was a more affordable alternative, though given the quality of the recent releases, I am kind of thankful they didn't port those. And ToV was indeed the oddball in that it had a Microsoft budget and really was unusually high end for the series.

I feel I should point out that they most likely legally have to say it's not in development for other platforms, Sony seemingly paid for a timed deal, it was announced as a console debut at a Sony conference (which Shuhei later clarified on twitter means timed console exclusive). So this statement in no way rules out yesterday's rumor, which was backed up by multiple sources supposedly, that NNK2 would come to XB1 at an unspecified date.

I agree though about Tales. I feel like the next one will come to XB1, almost everything Namco Bandai is coming to XB1 now. Hideo Baba is gone now, and he was a notorious Xbox hater who was most likely keeping the series from Xbox. We've heard rumors that they are dropping their ancient last-gen engine for the next game and possibly switching to Unreal 4 (almost every Namco Bandai Unreal 4 game is coming to XB1). I have high hopes that the next Tales will be full multiplat, Steam/PS4/XB1/Switch (a Tales game was already announced for Switch).

Next is Alestia, and a particularly poignant rumor someone heard pointed to it being bigger and more along the lines of Team Symphonia than the Team Destiny styled garbage that flooded Bamco Tales Studio since the actual studio's disolution post Vesperia.

And we're not going to see Orfellia in this generation, apparently...

The company desperately needs an RPG. They literally axed their new IP and then buried their only remaining one. I don't even care if it isn't Eastern, though the approach of making a game that can swap between Eastern and Western aesthetics is something I am presiding over, so long as it's an RPG because as it stands, MS has a great storyteller around and lots of games whose stories reach a length of twenty five hours before ending.

They could always try with Campaign DLC for Halo, but their lack of this and focus on MLG idiots is telling. They genuinely seem to want to be First Party Activision and seem to prefer to be big in online gaming and competitive gaming circles rather than create good stories. A shame, considering Allan Wake and QB were CW-Arrowverse material...

That IGN video with the improvements of KOTOR from Xbox to Xbox One S is pretty good.

I have the original Ninja Gaiden but not Black. Does anyone know if that will also be backward compatible?

It's not that i think they need one so bad but more so they can't go from 2016 until 2019 or maybe even 2020 without an entry from their 2 big hitting shooters or a new IP, if I knew for sure a new Fable or it's spiritual sucessor was in development to release 2018 then I would be happy Fable could be the 2018 big hitter but the odds of that are very slim and going 3- 4 years without there bread and butter series would be to long.

Gears 4 is the first and only of my titles that is already shown under Xbox One X Enhanced games on My games & apps tab.

I'd love to see Fable 4 in 2018, or a Halo RPG, either way it'd pretty much have to be done by a 2nd party studio. If Gears 5 and/or Halo 6 need more time, I say let them have it, better to make them good than to rush them out just to sell hardware for the Holiday. They'd be better off saving one or the other to sell the next Xbox in 2020 than using them to sell XB1's anyway, it's too late for XB1, but the next Xbox has a chance at doing well.

Yea I'm more than happy to see both Gears 5 and Halo 6 release a year or two later and my opinion on Gears 5 been 2018 isn't me wanting it to launch then but  just my thoughts on what I think MS will do along with how quickly they developed Gears 4 and launch it packed with content along with the Gears Ultimate they did before it.

^By Grind what kind of time are you talking? 10's of hours?

Gears 4 will have a performance mode! 1080p and 60fps for campaign and horde. Time to pre-order the monster 😎 I love The Coalition.
