Forums - Movies & TV - My thoughts on Ex-Machina

I think the Movies section is criminally under-used so I will start using it more to encourage VGChartz to have movie discussions.

So, I thought the movie was alright but overated based on critics' reviews.

Pros:

- It is intriguing for a while.

- The actress is very good in her role of an AI. Her expressions are very subtle. Oscar Isaac is good as well.

Cons:

- The ending is very predictable.

- The movie is very slow. It felt like there weren't enough material to make a whole movie so it is stretched out with long, "artistic" scenes where nothing is happening. Very similar to It Follows.

In the end, there is much to say about this movie. Not a whole lot of tension or intensity as I was expecting.

I thought it was good but not great. For some reason I liked the female protagonist but not the two guys. There was just nothing special about them.

A solid 7.5/10 for me. I liked the ending. I didn't mind how slow it was. There was just something missing. Not sure what.

Well the title gives away the ending so yes that was a little predictable.

Was i the only one hoping for a girlbot girlbot naughty scene?

The whole time i was thinking i want one of those, for scientific reasons.

I feel like the movie missed out on a plot twist.

When he begins to question his own humanity, by checking if hes a wired robat that just programmed to think hes human, while cutting into his own arm, it would be been a better story if that actually turned out true.

I dislike the ending the movie had, was too predictable and boring.

so basically;
3/4ths of the movie = fantastic
1/4th of the movie (the end) = meh

Good but not great. It left me with an uneasy feeling. That's not a good feeling to have when you are flying in the sky at 40,000 feet.

Saw it on a plane ride.

I loved it.

It was interesting but has one of the dumbest lead characters I have ever seen. lol!
