Forums - Sony Discussion - BraLoD catching up with the classics: Final Fantasy 10

I hate the analogies between 10 and 13, even as I understand why they're made. I think 10 struck a balance between freedom and linearity that 13 didn't, which went so far as restricting party composition & infuriating level caps. The combat systems are completely different, and I feel like 10's narrative gradually explains the setting far better than 13's. Was there any optional stuff to do in 13 before it gives the player the wheel?

Why didnt you play the Ps3/Ps4 remastered version ? I get it you wanted the original experienced but aside from better graphics the remaster is the original experience + some cool aditions as it is the so called "international version" that Japan always seen to release a year or so after the original release. It mostly has some extra super bosses tough, and as I know its not much your stle to go for the super bosses I dont think itd matter much for you anyway.

Yes, it is the normal USA version to the PS2.

Don't worry, right niw I'm not bothering with extra challenges or stuff, as I rather use the time to play other game I want.

The original version is exactly what I wanted too.

For example, I got Persona 3 FES because it's the one available at the PSN but I won't play the extra right after/together with it, once I beat it I'll move to 4, so I actually would have preffered to be able to get the normal version, it would probably be even cheaper too.

I want to experience the game as people who bought it at launch most of the times, unless it has some really big issue that can be avoided. The extra content is just it, extra, it can be could to have but won't change my experience with the normal playthrought.

In Personas case,P3 FES has added story stuf troughout the whole game, its by far the better and more complete version. Same could be said about Persona 4 Golden, if you have a Vita and can get that version of the game I recomend you do so, P4 Golden is the complete version while Persona 4 lacks a bunch of stuf that was added to the story and to gameplay on the Golden version.

For instance the true ending on both P3 and P4 is only achivable on FES and Golden versions, the original ending you get on P3 and P4 they do conclude the story but you can feel theres something still lacking to be explained in there.

Don't forget to play Blitzball. I think you need it for some ultimate something. :D

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Damn, Persona too? This lack of a "true ending" is sounding pretty bad.

Well in this case I would have no choice anyway, 'cause I don't have a Vita.

This has always been my gripe with the Persona series, you pretty much know theyll release an expanded version with extra story elements to it after the original release. Original P3 and P4 are great games and the story is conclusive but you cant help but feel theres something left unexplained in there. And them comes the expanded versions and they ofer a true endding (wich is not realy a different ending, its like an epilogue chapter, so you get original ending + "true ending" and only if you complete some rather hard to do stuf during the main game) and you realise why. However the game is phenomenal even in its original form, P4 is one of the best JRPGs I ever played and so is P3. Golden and FES versions only make these games more awesome, wich is why I said that if you had a way to play P4 Golden rather than standard P4 you should play Golden and that its a good thing you have P3 FES instead of standard P3.

Dont worry too much youll love P4 anyway Im sure of it.

FFX is actually the first FF game I ever played and ironically, it's one of two mainline FFs that I still haven't beaten yet (The other being 3). When I first played FFX, I was actually very impressed and immersed with the world and the story that FFX offered. It felt unique and the cut scenes were eventful. The first time I played FFX, I was genuinely satisfied with the game.

However, that was over 10 years ago. My perception of the game has dropped significantly. I think the story is still serviceable but I don't enjoy the voice acting and don't care about the characters. Some of them are good like the clever ones (Auron and Lulu) but I don't care about Tidus or Wakka or Rikku, etc. I liked the idea of how the game portrays organized religion and I will argue that Tidus isn't all bad, especially considering he's taken out of his element and transported to a world 1000 years into the future where he has no idea what's going on (But he's still annoying..). Also, the voice syncing is mediocre and the character movements seem really stiff and unnatural. This may seem minor and is more attributed to limitations but considering the story is trying to take itself seriously, it's small moments like those that break the immersion.

The OST is very good but not my favorite in the series and I think the gameplay is rather good. It's smooth and very accessible. I did enjoy how easy it is to switch party members on the fly and I didn't mind the sphere grid. But for the most part, the turned based system has been done in previous FFs so it's not ground breaking but rather refined. For all those that compare FF10 to FF13, I can see why you would do that considering both games are linear and have a portion later in the game that opens up. However, I'll argue FFX did linearity better as it still felt like you were exploring a world unlike FFXIII, where it really did feel like a hallway for 3/4 of the game.

FFX is a middle of the road FF for me when considering the entire series. I enjoyed FFVI, VII, VIII, IX and XII more than X. However, I don't think it's a bad game by any means. It's good but flawed and does not hold a candle to other FFs, imo.

I'm really liking the battle system, could be so much better of a game if it wasn't so weak in the story telling.

Sometimes I wonder if they rushed the job or were really that focused in making it beauty they let it aside.

It feels like it's missing pieces of conversation here and there and them making it feel they are actually passing through it.

Ok, I just came from MGS games and they are really great at it, but the other FFs didn't felt like this to me.

Anyway, it's being a fun ride xD

How far into it are you? It is quite a bit different than the older FFs in many ways. I quite liked the story but I think I know what you mean. Good to hear it's fun!

I just picked up Okami HD off of the PS Store for $5 so it looks like I'll be playing some more classics as well. After that I kind of want to play Resident Evil 4

Resident Evil 4 is so good, I was feeling like playing it again as well some time ago, but I need to catch up to a lot of other games first xD
