Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I've accepted Wii U's sales situation

I've accepted that the Wii U wont outsell GCN,I changed my lifetime to 18M,I still think it can make 20M or maybe barely outsell GCN's 21.7M if it gets 199$ price soon. I think Nintendo after the Wii got cocky like how sony did with ps3.Plus the Wii U name was confusing and no games in it's 1st year.It had potential to at least match SNES in my opinion. But I hope they learnt from this and can do a lot better next gen,I hope they can match NES sales next gen with their Wii U's successor we know nothing about.Nintendo is a wildcard you never know what they will come up with.

So lets just enjoy the Wii U its a great console and has great games and more to come.

Yeaa, its time to accept it really. I don't see Nintendo dropping the price to $200, maybe to $250 but $200 is too low for them by the looks of it so yea, 18sh sounds good depending on how long they support it

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

I find it funny how Sony has already written off the PSV based on its sales, and yet it has still sold better than Wii U.

That's like a double kick to the testes.

I'm starting to think it'll only reach 15~18m. O.o

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Better late than never! I knew this before MK8 even released! xP

Price cuts will tell us more of the story. They just refuse to do it! Will beinteresting to see how much price cuts eventually boost it over the years.

I have seen this since before christmas IIRC. But I live in Europe so I do not know if it is real.

Nintendo Wii U 8GB Basic Limited Edition Skylanders Swap Force Basic Set

$249

Do you work at Walmart? Have you seen this?

Yeah, it's honestly such a shame. Nintendo made some huge mistakes and the general public responded (or didn't, I guess). The terrible part is how good the games on it are - some of the best that Nintendo has ever made and it seems like such a waste that only 10 million people have gotten to play them. I think 18 million is realistic lifetime at this point.

Oh well. I don't regret buying the console and I'm sure most other Wii U owners don't, either. I'm glad it's profitable. And I hope they learn from this and use it to make an even better, more successful console next time.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I remember when in mid-2013 noname2200 said to me that at this time it can already be considered a victory if the Wii U beats the GC in lifetime sales. I argued that the Wii U still has many big games coming for it, plus several price cuts as opposed to the GC which had nowhere to go in regards to price pretty quickly.

Then in late November of the same year I said to noname2200 that at this time it can already be considered a victory if the Wii U reaches half of the GC's lifetime sales.

Gosh, what a piece of trash the Wii U is.

It does have the best legal port of Super Metroid though. Mappable controls plus restore points are great additions.

It won't outsell the Gamecube, that much is pretty much certain.

But just as I didn't care if the Gamecube sold a crapload of units, I don't care if the Wii U don't sells a crapload of units.
Right now, it's the only current gen system I own. And I have a blast with it. That's really all that matters to me.

Nintendo will survive the lack of sales of the Wii U, and will eventually produce an other hit console. Probably never on the scale of the original Wii, but again, I'm fine with that. As long as they keep on producing stellar games I enjoy, all's ok in NintendoLand.

Wii U could have been completely different.
1. 1 TF of processing power.
2. No gamepad only pro controller.
3. Splatoon as launch title. And many must have games since Nintendos Wii support became barren after 2010.
4. Actual focus on third parties as they said. Actively working with them.
5. Decent price tag.

The reason we keep getting "why Wii U didnt do well" threads because many havent accepted it. Live the truth. Time to enjoy the system.
