Wii U numbers are really bad.

Seems like a clear trend, One is by far seeing the most growth but has a long way to go, 3DS had a spike like I thought it would and is now on the continued downwards trend globally, also like I said it would.
Wii U showing small growth overall but this is right around the time when MK8 released last year so we'll likely see heavy downwards trending yoy for all of summer, even more than the 3DS.

PS4 showing some growth somewhere along the average for normal growth in the second CY, or somewhat below, still nice when viewed in context with the relative lack of big releases and still no price cut, but the One also has had no big releases and the price cut is getting old. Sony will probably have to take action before next year starts if they want to keep growing decently for 2016, I don't see Nintendo being able to do anything with their downwards trends for both handheld and home console and I don't think they really care since I believe both the 3DS and Wii U will get their successor next holiday season.

All in all; there is decent overall growth in the home console market, despite the One's huge percentages, the actual figures are still way below the 7th gen since both the One and especially the Wii U are moving slowly and the handheld curve is ridiculous in comparison over a similar time frame.
I would say that the industry is doing "okay", no less and certainly no more.

Edit; I forgot, YAY, WE HAVE NUMBERS AGAIN!

I honestly expected PS4 to be down YOY at this point. The Witcher 3 and Batman will now help it being up still. Then it will be interesting to see if MGSV can boost PS4 more than Destiny did last year

I don't know what's funnier, the fact that the 3DS has dropped so low like I said it would, or the fact that the 3DS is still in second place with numbers so low.

Well, this is new.

2015 YTD Vita > Wii U

What's interesting about it is, where the sales come from.

WiiU worldwide this year: 735078

regional: 322102 (USA) + 178213 (Europe) + 150811 (Japan) = 651126

PSV: 771628

97148 + 153580 + 360108 = 610836

The better sales of the PSV in Japan couldn't make up for the worse sales in the US and europe. But overall it leads. Other regions are the saviour for the PSV. Let's do the math, it must be 735078 - 651126 = 83952 for WiiU and 771628 - 610836 = 160792 for PSV. That's impressive.

3DS-FC: 4511-1768-7903 (Mii-Name: Mnementh), Nintendo-Network-ID: Mnementh, Switch: SW-7706-3819-9381 (Mnementh)

my greatest games: 2017, 2018

Predictions: Switch / Switch vs. XB1 in the US / Three Houses first quarter

Yeah, there really isn't any proper, logical reason in conventional market movements for why the PS4 is showing growth for this quarter. I think it mostly comes down to the fact that the others are still performing pretty poorly and the PS4 has become the go-to console for developer and customer alike, it maintains its own momentum by having secured a huge lead and reaping the benefits from "it" status.
Once more, as it was in the 6th gen, when someone says "video game" or "console", average consumers associate these terms with "playstation".

Those who say that is "only selling on hype" are partly correct in some ways, but they are wrong in thinking that the sales will die down or even decrease if and when this hype dies; Sony has as of yet done next to nothing to help the PS4 along, they have been more or less handed the win by the utterly ridiculous decisions made by the competition since before the consoles were even announced. But it has its own legs to stand on, more and better software will help and the first price cut is sure to invigorate the market near the holidays.
Unlike the Wii, which relied solely upon hype, or the euphemism vgchartzers chose; viral marketing, the PS4 has a life to live besides this bubble and we'll see a lot more stable sales curves, not unlike the PS3 but with less growth in later years and insane longevity and without the immense speed of the Wii's initial years.
Let's just hope Sony doesn't get too lazy or too timid, the PS3 should have been the only lesson the needed.

That's my belief anyway.

End of 2016 hardware sales:

Wii U: 15 million. PS4: 54 million. One: 30 million. 3DS: 64.8 million. PSVita: 15.2 million.

Glad and happy to see numbers are up! Here's to getting to May!
