Forums - Gaming Discussion - Deep Silver trademarks Bloodstained

Koch Media, parent company of game publisher Deep Silver, has trademarked the name “Bloodstained” in both the United States and Europe, suggesting the company is not only the publisher of the Kickstarter-funded Castlevania: Symphony of the Night successor, but the owner of the franchise.

Bloodstained‘s Kickstarter campaign is currently funded at $2.8 million, much over its initial $500,000 goal, with 15 days left. It’s achieved the majority of its stretch goals, with the only visible goals left being a Wii U port at $3 million (the game is currently confirmed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC) and a hidden stretch goal at $3.25 million.

The same company that developed Metro?

I'm cool with this.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I see; Deep Silver is also responsible for publishing Mighty Number 9.
I'm curious to know who will be publishing Yooka-Laylee...

Watch everyone except Wii U get a physical version just to make me cry D:

Also if they outright own the IP now, could they still cancel it in general? since they've stated this before

or are they contractually obligated to publish it on Wii U too no matter what?

I find this odd. Isn`t the point of these games being kickstarted is to not have a publisher and have total freedom of their game...?

Not always, this game was kickstarted to prove that there was still interest in this style of game. He stated it off the bat that the kickstarter money was to prove to an investor that they should invest in his game. Im sure he still wants IP ownership and complete freedom in making the game but thats not always the reason to kickstart.

Yeah, I do remember him saying that. Point taken. I do hope Iga still gets all the freedom he need to make the game he wants... And still Wii U version ;)

yeah thats the part im worried about since its Deep Silver. If they now own the IP then the Wii U version is now in jeopordy if they have full control over it

But... it`s a stretchgoal that`s going to get passed. They can`t stomp that hope like that... : ( It`s be criminal...

The article you linked, which is more than 2 years old, outlines how their primary demographic is not on Wii U.

If Bloodstained reaches their Wii U port stretch goal, Deep Silver will comply with their efforts as long as it is financially viable. But considering that the original project did not have the Wii U in mind, this could go in the direction of the Project Cars Wii U fiascal.

If the financial incentive is there and the project is properly managed, there will be a Wii U version for sale. Though I don't specifically see any indication of a physical release for Wii U. Keep that in mind...
