Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why don't larger devs give Wii U owners a chance through kickstarter or sites like it

Exactly, it's not like it's a surprise that real 3rd parties would skip the wii u. If people want the best 3rd party games just buy a different (or second) console. That way they can enjoy their favourite Nintendo exclusives plus all the remaining 3rd party games and Playstation (for example) exclusives as well.

How's that for a novel idea?

Honestly at this point I don't get why Nintendo fans even care about 3rd party support anymore. It's not going to happen so you might as well just buy a PS4 or Xbone if you want 3rd party games

Agree! A look at the top lists of all Nintendos consoles show that Nintendo gamers buy Nintendo games. If anything from third parties makes it to the top sales positions it is games like Just Dance, Skylanders or Lego games.

Nintendo, and their fans, are stuck with their "simple" game philosophy where story, graphics and "reality" are sacrificed for gameplay.

(I am a Nintendo gamer and I have to admit that the dark, gritty, realistic games does not appeal very much to me. I can play around in GTA or Assassin's Creed or CoD for a couple of hours but it is nothing I usually want more of. I did play trough all of Red Dead Redemption. For some reason I liked it more than any GTA game. What I personally lack in Nintendo are Console/Semi-Sim racers but I doubt that they would sell well on Nintendo systems.)

so does alot of last gen games put on their highest settings. It doesnt change the fact you are comparing a last gen game with a current gen one. If you have an example of a current gen game PS4/x1/PC only, being ported to Wii U without alot of sacrifices i would love to see it. And im not talking indie either.

Porting difficulties aside, I know Project Cars is a very demanding game and the Wii U might just not be cut to run it. Yet they were confident the game would run smoothly. It's not really a porting problem but more a problem of overconfidence and making promises they can't keep.

Cant really argue with that.

The only thing I accept is that 3rd parties continue to treat the wii u base like crap, and some of us aren't going to put up with it. With mass effect 2 released on ps3 at its time of release. A mil seems acceptable on a more established base. ME3 was released on a new console that likely has not played a ME game and it was released on the PS3 and 360 with the large bases. What were they expecting? This can be applied to other games, like AC3 and batman. Then it's shocking that those games sell poor? Yes, they sold poor, but the base is not responsible for all the blame. Take other moments like the rayman delay and 6 month Watch Dogs delay, and its not too surprising those versions did not sell so well.

Also, Fifa games also sell the strongest on Sony Consoles. I don't consider that a strong case for your argument.

so in your opinion what 3rd party game WOULD have sold. Cause its not like the exclusives did good either.

I think the best bet would have been if new exclusive games would have sold better than the ones released. While it didn`t sell as well, Zombi U did sell the best out of the 3rd party launch games, and it was both `new` and an exclusive game. If more newer games were made with more polish given to them, I think they would have had a better chance of selling better. Zombi U I was interested, but after hearing some reviews, I held off on it. That game I think could have been a great game if given more time on it.

and that game still flopped (the numbers here are overtracked) so surely you must understand why a 3rd party would not want to spend time and money to make an exclusive game with that low install base? Hell they wont do that for Xone and PS4 and those systems are actually selling, let alone do it for WIi U

I agree, but that does not mean Nintendo should just treat that as the norm. It is like they just expect this to be the case now. Third party digital is what kept the Wii U alive in the gaps between games.

They've been treating that like the norm for a LONG time. Probably since N64 if they havent changed by now i wouldnt hold my breath things will be different in the future

Project Cars for instance. If we want it bad enough we will pay for it!

What will it cost? Do an indiogogo and let the money add up, or do a kickstarter and give us a real test! The kickstarter indie games are proof we will pay for it. So if companies are worried about making a profit, why not make a profit from the start? Is it really that hard?

Could have solved a lot of third party problems over the years! Instead of letting things build up like they did with Project Cars and even Watch Dogs.

Half the problem isnt Nintendo owners its Nintendo. They are the reason why third party games dont sell so well on their consoles. By absence fans learned to buy their games elsewhere hence why when third parties do show up they always sell less on Nintendo. Nintendo tries to control anyone who dares to put games on their platform unless they give them freedom (which means they trust them). Nintendo fans tend to blame third party when third parties have enjoyed more profit since they've left Nintendo exclusivity (ever noticed?).

Most of the larger devs gave warning at the tail end of last gen that they would need the consoles to have more ram and space than Nintendo even intended on offering. At E3 2012 Nintendo still managed to get a couple on board even after not heeding their requests. As fate would have it (yet again) the plans fell through. I wouldnt doubt its because of another disagreement with Nintendo.

1. That would cause backlash. No big publisher should be kickstarting anything.
2.Although the cost could be negated, its still opportunity cost in terms of their teams time. They could be working on an already paid for Wii U port (nice!) or they could be producing more content for PS4/X1 owners (also nice and probably more important overall)
3. They don't care unless big bucks are on the table

Third parties really did not do anything special. At least most of these ports were decent, but still old. Nintendo should have but did not. Does that mean everyone should just roll over and play dead?

They should rectify it next gen with hardware+marketing+new DeNA funded online system+starting their console of to a strong start with a great 1st party line up, something Wii U didn't have

Id rather see EA not get money at all than some confused (in my opinion!) customers that still want to give them money doing so with kickstarter.

I guess its okay the way it is.

If we are talking about Japanese JRPGs tho   I AGREE!
