Mach 2 is a term meaning speed of sound. Not a sequencial thing.

Mach 2 is the speed of sound. Like Mach 2 specifically.

For clarification, yes, there is a Mach 1. It's just not the speed of sound. Sonic is specifically known to run at the speed of sound, so calling the game "Sonic Mach 1" wouldn't make sense, because it would be calling him slow.

That is incorrect. Mach 1 is the speed of sound. 340.29  m/s or 761.2 mph.

I have no idea why they called it Mach 2.

Lisenced movie games typically do very well; way to waste Sonic Team's talent Sega. They should ship that off to whoever made Sonic Boom, and put Sonic Team on a real 3D Sonic game.
