The Northwest is also due for a big one. I think were like a century overdue or something like that. Its a race between Oregon, Washington vs California on who will get one first.

Well, if they are serious about winning that race, they better start teaching gayness and build a bunch of atheist churches.

A 9.8 earthquake? I know this is more than likely viral marketing for San Andreas the movie, which looks entertaining enough but do people really still think these Hollywood disaster movies even begin to reflect what is factually possible?

People might want to start reading up on some basic facts and fiction about earthquakes. Here 's a good source:

So Frank was wrong about the date but not about the event itself. California and Japan WILL sink into the sea, this is ordained. The faithful will be rewarded. I have no fears, just an unbridled optimism about the future of Man.

The event could still trigger as I speculated before the end of the year. Mankind really needs this wake up call.

8.5 Quake just hit east of Japan.

Fortunately, some reports have stated that no one is seriously injured.

"The earthquake struck at 18:30 local time (11:30 GMT). Buildings in the capital swayed for almost a minute as the quake built in intensity. There are no reports of serious damage. No tsunami alert was issued. "

However, here in CA, no 9.8 earthquakes have been felt.

A 9.8, would be felt far, far beyond CA (Japan's was felt in a ~2500km radius and it was a 9.0)

Ye - Yeah, that's right! I knew that! I live in CA after all, so I should know everything about earthquakes. I mean I live near a precarious fault line so I need to know everything in case the big one hits!

...

I should really brush up my knowledge about earthquakes...

Sure and if it won't happen this year then "he was still right, it will just happen in this decade" and after that "he was still right, it will happen this centruy"

Or somethnig bad will happen just on another place and then it will be "he was right, just not with the area it happens". You guys always find ways to "prove" your point and to believe everything you read or hear from someone.

The article I read recently about the inacuracies of the movie San Andreas said that the earthquake that the movie had (like a 9.5 or something like it) would only be felt like in New Mexico or something.  Nowhere near feeling it in New York or anything.

I think it may depend highly on where and what depth the earthquake hits at, though from further reading it appears that scientists also think the fault line is not long or deep enough to even achieve a 9.8.  7.9's the highest recorded (1900's).

I would think that most 9.8 EQ's though, would be felt further away than New Mexico, can't say for sure, and I doubt we want to find out hah.
