The flat out stubbornness of not creating a PlayStation Phone, and not expanding the PlayStation brand beyond entertainment is going to be the death of the entire company. They let Apple and Google come out of nowhere with android and ios and absolutly blow them away at their own game, and here we are nearly 10 years later, and they still have not responded. If they do not put out a PlayStation Phone on their own OS in the next 12 months, then they can shut the door oon PlayStation Now, PlayStation Music, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Vue. Nobody is going to use PlayStation services on Samsung, HTC, Apple, LG, etc., etc, etc, devices. And, building a brand around a competitors OS has already bit them once, so why would they do it again. Xperia is Vaio all over again. They can not expect PlayStation network to live side by side with Google Play and Itunes if they are doing nothing to try and pull people away from those ecosystems. People spend 24 hours a day with Itunes and Google Play. PlayStation Network is limited to free time when people are at home. This is not a winning formula. |
No one's ditching the iOS and Android app marketplaces to go get a phone with a custom Sony OS that probably will have little to no app support. That ship sailed a loooooong time ago.

Actually, in Croatian Vita means "a screw". (as in nuts and bolts, not a sex act).
But it translates into English conveniently well.

Freedom Wars was pretty great. Probably the best hunting game I've played that isn't called Monster Hunter. It did pretty well in Japan so hopefully a sequel is coming to PS4. I would like another one. Gravity Rush 2 is definitely a PS4 game at this point. I don't know what's going on with Soul Sacrifice. That series might be dead. And umm.... is that really all SCEJ developed for the Vita? Jesus, what a useless branch.

Whilst it was very evident Sony stopped supporting the Vita some time ago, it is just disappointing that they basically pulled a "Sega" and have formally pulled the plug on it. It would have been better to not say a word. Such a shame because the hardware and physical construction(of the OLED model at least) was absolutely beautiful....
Errr. Seems like this is not really the case. They refer to the first model as a "Legacy Platform", i.e. the 1000 model which has been discontinued.

Then I guess the PSTV was a 'legacy' from the start lol
I'll pick up a Vita when its cheap.
