The sad part of this is if the NX is a home console, this is very possible and the next Zelda will do what Twilight Princess did.

What's sad about that? More people playing the game and Nintendo making more money is sad?
I think people need to wake up a bit too. The situation with NX is pretty dire for Nintendo. If it isn't successful they are probably done as a hardware maker IMO.
They need to do everything possible to make it a success, I'm sorry if there's a whiny portion of the Wii U userbase that is upset that they don't get exclusive dibs on a game, but as long as they get the game, my POV is simply this -- give it a rest and try to understand BUSINESS realities. Nintendo isn't a charity or a good will organization. Really. Nintendo needs to do what's best for them as a company, if the game still is coming to the Wii U, then seriously, this is just a sad amount of complaining over nothing.

If this happens to be the case, the Wii U will be the first Nintendo console to not get it's own Zelda game, it'll be the first console to have a shared Zelda game only.

And the only ones to blame are Nintendo. They decided to focus on remakes and spinoffs rather than using all those developers to finish soon the game. The Wii U sales are also, in some part, consequence of the unexciting software for the masses. The correct Zelda could have sold very good, and maybe even pushed a little more consoles. Now they are in a corner where releasing the project only on the current console will be a big waste of time and money.
That's part of the disscussion I've been trying to have here, they are taking too long, mismanagement is evident and games are sending to dead on arrival. This looks like another Skyward Sword situation where the fanbase has moved and game will bomb hard (for Zelda expectations).
There are only 2 logical financial ways: release on Wii U and NX, or release on Wii U with a huge amiibo lineup, DLC and special editions, with demos on the Symphony of the Goddesses.
