Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One price dropped $110 in China

Microsoft have dropped the price of the Xbox One (without Kinect) in China from RMB 3,699 to RMB 2,999 after lacklustre sales compared to the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system. This is a drop of RMB 700 / USD 110 and puts it close the the PlayStation 4 price which is currently at RMB 2,899.

Microsoft launched the Xbox One in China back in September 2014 whilst the PlayStation 4 launched much later in March 2015. The PlayStation 4 has seen success in China thanks to the already large fan base in the country and thanks to continued support from Sony in the Asian market whilst the Xbox One has failed to take off.

This is Microsofts first official price drop in China, outside of temporary promotions, however retailers have been dropping prices for a long time now in order to move units and China is still doing their import/grey market thing. A version of the Xbox One with Kinect is available at RMB 3,799 which is down from RMB 4,299 but still much higher than the PlayStation 4 Stand x camera bundle at RMB 3,299. Microsoft China have also heavily dropped the price of the Day One special edition which has still failed to sell out more than 9 months since release.

The PlayStation 4 has sold more than 22.3 million units worldwide as of March 2015 whilst the Xbox One total stands at just over half the PlayStation 4 total. The console market in China is estimated to be worth around USD 400 million in 2015.

See thats not good at all.

China is PC/mobile land, and it will continue to be as long as the goverment censorship keeps forbiding most console games.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Na it cool. Just rip my post from GAF and don't change any of the content/credit me.

Lackluster sales.... gets a price cut.... still costs more than the Ps4.
Logic. *facepalm*

^ this and being more expensive just doesnt work.

And the people that do know, are aware the PS4 is 50% faster and not region locked.

Pretty sure we heard about this quite a while ago. Remember reading about this (on VGC) around the PS4 China launch.

That was more temporary whilst this is permanant.

Also I wouldn't read too much into it personally. If someone in China wants an Xbox One they will either import which is cheaper, or buy online, which is cheaper.

This RRP is just that, an RRP.

So it's kinda like the UK RRP where you can get one cheaper than that at most places anyways. Well, it's still better than MS doing nothing I guess.

Yeh that's a good way to put it really in terms of local sales.

But importing is still very big in China. Especially as PS4 and X1 came out a long time after US. Plus it's still cheaper to import in some cases.

Well it seems China isn't the promised land for consoles. Let's see if better news arrive from this.
