Forums - Gaming Discussion - I've come to realize that the "Souls" games and Bloodborne are terrible games...

I cringed when you said there was lack of atmosphere in Bloodborne (I didn't play DS 2 yet).

Sounds like you died once in BloodBorne and then just gave up... After Demon's & Dark Douls, were you really expecting a super easy experience? BloodBorne is easily my biggest Love/ Hate game by far, so I can see where some people might not enjoy it, but dying and being sent back is a pretty lame excuse for not liking a game that's literally built around dying, learning from your mistakes, and persevering.

I'm not a big Souls game fan, besides BloodBorne, so I personally found the atmosphere in BloodBorne to be phenomenal. We don't see a lot of extremely dark Victorian Era games like that, and god damn, BloodBorne was dark... The gameplay is solid, no real gripes there. The story is actually pretty crazy and deep, but you have to actually take the time to understand it, as it's pretty damn complicated. And the best part about the game, which you didn't experience, is when you go through all sorts of shit to finally defeat a boss, and the satisfaction is like no other from a video game. Especially, when a boss manages to kill you a crap ton of times. You just gotta be patient, and work with it. Believe me, there were parts in BloodBorne where I was genuinely like, "This game is fuckin Terrible!", but I refused to quit, and it became my first platinum from a Souls game.

Wait, hear me out... So, I was so excited to finally (after 6 months) finish Dragon Age: Inquistion so I could start on Dark Souls II and Bloodborne. I start Dark Soul II and after a lackluster character creation I'm thrown into a world of crappy textures, stiff characters, and brown/grey everything. Seriously, this game has 0 atmosphere whatsoever. There's nothing to listen to outside of your character's footsteps and the occasional weapons clanks. The game isn't even the sort of "challenge" that makes the player want to continue playing. You play for 20 minutes and advance fairly far past your starting point, die, and you're thrown right back to the beginning. I've known that From Software games are like this but being that everything mention previously is in existence it must makes the nearly near unplayable.

Now, Bloodborne. Bloodborne looked promising. I'm thinking that after disliking Demons Souls and Dark Souls I & II I'd actually like a game from From. NOPE!!! Same knocks: No atmosphere, lame character creation, brown/grey colors, crappy textures, and stiff characters. I put it a good amout of play time into the game and after about 20 minutes and at least 20-25 baddies killed I'm bested by a huge guy with a brick and some demon dogs. Well, guess what? Right back to the beginning. This was probably the first time ever that I've appreciated that little beep the PS4 makes when it turns off.

I'm starting to think that  when it pertains to these franchises, From is the video game equivalent to Seth McFarlane whereas they take the exact same formula, dress it up a bit different, and receive critical acclaim for making the very same thing they make a few years back. Thank God The Witcher was there to save the day and quench my thirst for a great RPG.

Dragon Age: Inquistion = Platinum'd

The Witcher III = AWESOME GAME SO FAR!!!

Dark Souls II and Bloodborne = eBay!!!

No atmsopshere? Are you kidding me? I admit that dark souls 2 was by far the worst in that regard, but saying any of the others was lacking in atmosphere is flat out wrong. There's no reason to "here you out."

There are two types of dark souls players. There are the people that die a lot at first, get the hang of it and learn from their mistakes, then there are people like you, who give up after dying one or two times. It's not that you don't have the skill to do well in this game (you may or may not), it's that you let it defeat you before you even gave it a chance. Jesus, they're 60+ hour games, and you seemed to have judged literally every one of them based on the first 20 minutes of you playing them.

I always love that excuse for hating these games. "I died and got sent back to the beginning!" Yep, I though you knew that's what happened lol.

No atmosphere.

With all the respect that you deserve sir.... ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???

like many users have said in this thread that is a straight up LIE!, a disgusting LIE...

everything in Bloodborne from the clothes that you are wearing, the map design, the architecture of the city, the world, the music, the monster designs and even the weapons, everything is filled with a GOTHIC VICTORIAN ATMOSPHERE....

are you going to tell me there is no atmosphere in here:

just look at the fucking city you are in:

lame character creation

the same character creation that lets you tweak EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of your character? the one in which i spent 4 hours creating my character? the one thas so indeepth that you can even make the joker in it???

i havent played every game with a create a character feature out there, so there might some with more options but saying the create a character feature in Bloodborne is lame, is as much of a lie as saying that is has not atmosphere.

brown/grey colors

the game take place in gothic atmosphere, of course its going to be dark, and since you are never going to get past the first area on the game i might as well show you that the games atmosphere and tone changes throught the game, since its stops being so dark after a while:

look DAYTIME, LIGHT... colors that you would have seen if you got past the very first area of the game...

and after a while things get more "colorful" when the world goes to shit.

crappy textures

this might not be The Order 1886 in terms of graphics, but saying this game has "crappy textures" is also a LIE, the blood in this game looks amazing same goes for the leather, the metal/steel of your weapons, and the furr of the creatures, the sparks your guns and weapons do whe you use them or transform them and everything else in the world looks good,  it might not be the best looking game in terms of graphics out there, but saying it has crappy textures is beyond truth... just another of your LIES.

Look at the reflection in the metal of the scythe and the gun, and the furr of the werewolves

look at the leather of his clothes, look at the furr of the boss:

look at the spark, the dust, the fire, the leather clothes and the blood in the clothes of the "witches"

look at the blood

heck, when the blood touches the ground it looks like "dried blood" as it should look

i can understand you not liking the game, its atmosphere, its gameplay mechanics etc... but i wont tolerate LIES.

Even if you don't like the Souls games, you just can't point out a good developer and say they make "terrible games" if you haven't played everything they have to offer...

Don't forget Adventures of Cookie and Cream lol

The game is clearly not for him, but his criticisms are ridiculous. This is why I dislike like most modern critics. They find something they dislike, or it's just not for them, so they immediately tear down everything that's obivously good about the game, and make decent games look bad.

Yeah. Exactly the problem a lot of Japanese games have in terms of reviews and the reason why i dont pay attention to said reviews when it comes to those types of games, (and im not even talking about the souls games here).

The game has grand and epic set pieces for sure. But it's all so dread and lifeless. No sound, nothing moves, etc. Bad guys lurching around make no sound even though they're 10 feet tall and covered in metal.
