I thought the atmosphere in Bloodborne was amazing, one of the best things about it imo. Don't really understand the point of threads like these. You don't like them therefore they are terrible games?

I can certainly understand that the play style of games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne aren't for everyone. However, I do question some of your criticisms. I personally feel the Souls games do atmosphere better than most due to the worlds, the ambient sounds and the fact that absolutely everything can kill you if you don't have your wits about you.
The character creator is pretty detailed in terms of how your character looks but is generally just a bunch of sliders. The first area in Bloodborne is quite grey but the game does get more colourful the further you progress. I completely disagree with "crappy textures" but that's an eye of the beholder thing. The game is incredibly detailed.
As others have said, it doesn't seem like you've put in a great deal of time into it as you've described about the first half of the first area before giving up. These games are very much a learning experience as well as a game. If you don't put in the time to learn the mechanics and patterns of the enemies then you're doomed to many, many deaths. They're not for you, and that's fine. Certainly doesn't make them terrible games though.

Sorry you didn't like it, considering how excited you seemed to be, but claiming Souls games are terrible is just wrong. Objectively, they might have flaws, but when it comes to level/game design, gamepay and art direction, they're among the best that released in the past 6 years. |
you mean you have to try till you can beat it? its try and error, not learning of mechanics.
and immersion is hard when the framerate drops all the time...

Isn't a bad review pretty much an entire article made to crap all over a game? Nothing wrong with that. Someone doesn't like something they can voice their opinion.

In this game, when you die, it's your fault. You have to learn the moveset/pattern of each enemy in order to know how to defeat them. Also, it's pretty easy to beat mobs and bosses without even dying. Just be careful, observe, and strike at the right moment. So yeah it IS about learning mechanics.
Also, framerate drops are VERY rare. They were common day one, but it's not the case anymore. I've been playing the game for the last 4 days and didn't have any framerate drop, for example.
Don't talk about things you don't know, because making claims like that based on nothing isn't really the best way to make a point.
Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.

Yes, by all means.
But still, these games aren't terrible at all. You didn't quite get the grasp of it and don't seem to like the genre, that's all. Huge difference.

To be honest, while the Souls games have given us lots of legendary meme material, I don't find them THAT enjoyable. I mean, for me they are kinda fun for a bit of time, but I feel them "basic", based only on skill button pressing and not much else. Kinda like a MOBA.
Though obviously there are people that find the charm on that, it's totally acceptable.

No, I played for a while and kept dying. Then after killing a slew of enemies after about 20 of gameplay I died again and had to start from the beginning. |
This seems to be the worst offender for you. I can understand if Bloodborne or the Souls games are not for you. They're hard no doubt and can be grueling or even frustrating at times but to call them terrible is why you might get some grief over the interwebs for your opinion.
They are actually very good games and do have stories they just don't have a very strong in-game narrative. In fact, that's what I like about them personally. Discovering the small hints and easter egg like story elements of the game has been one of the major joys of my Bloodborne experience. I like Bloodborne so much it got me to go back to Dark Souls, on the PC, which I'm loving BTW.
They're hard games. Very hard. Terrible? I think not. You either don't understand the genre (I didn't at first either) or can't stand the challenge (I couldn't either) but calling them terrible is kind of a lousy opinion, in my own opinion.
In the end, it's just your opinion.
Personally, I think Dark Souls and Bloodborne are masterpieces.

Isn't dying always the player's fault? I any game? Also, to be fair, I've seen some players experience frame rate issues on a game while some don't. So maybe his experience differs from yours in that aspect.
