Forums - Gaming Discussion - [Game Theory: DEADLOCK] Does Dark Souls ACTUALLY SUCK?!?

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YfVIJMvM1Y

Game Theory made a deadlock episode about whether DS is good or just broken and called hard. While i like the game a lot, can't deny some of the critics made in the video. I remember a thread about this subject sometime ago, so decided to post anymay (I also enjoy the channel, so why not advertise it a little XD)

For realz? -.-

Ive always thought that the souls games flaws are swept under the carpet simply because the games are meant to be hard.
I quite enjoy the souls games but there is an echo chamber on the internet where souls fans will shoot down any criticism.

My opinion is that the game really isnt good enough for me. The thought of wasting time replaying a who knows how many minutes long section of the game due to cheap deaths, dealing with the combat that clearly is not very fluid (even if the argument can be made that its on purpose, i disagree with that premise. A responsive game is an intuitively better game) and what are clearly bad item descriptions and lack of direction tells me well in advance that it is a game that will bring me more frustration than enjoyment.

Ninja gaiden 2 was hard and utterly responsive and visceral. Hard alone doesnt make a good game. Nowadays time is a precious resource for those of us that work. This kind of game requires patience, alot of it, to get to the enjoyment. I am glad people who like that have that game to get into, but i cant see it as a great game. It is obviously flawed in a fundamental level.

The ratio of fun to frustration is on a clear 50/50... and it may not even be the fun but simply the feeling of beeing rewarded for putting up with a bad game in order to be rewarded with items/points that will make it more bearable. I just can't help but think there is something fundamentally wrong with that. Its more the game is playing with you than the other way around.

Well I said it a long time ago. It's very easy making a game hard. It's very hard to make a game engaging.

Then again it's so much easier to make a game hard and just call it engaging.

Honestly I think the games are just frustrating.
There is a huge difference between making something frustrating and having an actual challenging game.
A lot of it comes down to being a fair game and Dark Souls often is not fair at all (like mentioned in the video).
The video itself is really good though, I like hearing those debates.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

It's frustrating for some sure but really all video games along with evrything else in the known universe has it's set of flaws, DS is far from perfect.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I liked it. If you don't then it's because of your preference.

You either like the game(s) or you don't. There's not much point in trying to convince either side of it to change their mind but people like to do it anyway. I like the series a lot but I respect others' opinion on the games to a point. It's not for everyone and it shouldn't be.

I never thought DS is hard. Its not a gods blessing, but still a good game. DS2 is much worse, btw.
