Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why are so many games skipping the XBOX ONE?

1 japanese games sell better on the ps system and the ps system is the better selling in japan.

2 sony money hatting

Are people saying Magicka 2 is a Japanese game?  Heh.  Anyway, I think this quote sums up a lot of what smaller western studios were thinking at the start of this gen:

"I think the fact that we had some personal connections with Sony and we also felt that their offerings toward the hardcore gamers that we were after were more solid than the ones Microsoft had," Wester said. "Now I think, looking back at it, it's probably quite equal. But back then, it sounded like Sony had a more solid offering. But we hope to go to the Xbox One as well. We want to be on all platforms where our gamers are."

Also during our interview, Wester revealed that Paradox's deal with Sony for Magicka 2 is only a timed exclusive, meaning the game could someday come to the Xbox One. "We'll see if Microsoft is still interested in working with Magicka when that time is up. We'd be happy to bring it to the Xbox One."

That perception is due to both Sony's efforts and Microsoft's mistakes and it allowed Playstation to jump out to a lead in terms of developer support.

As for the Japanese games, that's pretty easy.  Smaller Japanese developers do not think the audience is there for their titles on Xbox in enough numbers to make the extra expense worthwhile.  Also, some work closely with Sony and do not want to muck up that relationship.

a lot of those games are Japanese games, that have normally been exclusive to Playstation... just look at the amount of Japanese games the PS3 has versus the 360, (heck the PS3 is still getting Japanese games including some of the ones you mentioned on the list).

Japanese developers tend to skip the Xbox version because it simply isnt worth it sometimes with the game selling really poorly (see D4 for the X1) or Blazblue Chronophantasma, the third entry of a game that used to be multiplat and became PS3 exclusive because the low sales on the 360 didn't justify the port, so its understandable that this developers that are not filled in cash want to avoid a version that could sell so low that it wouldn't make up the money of porting the game.

Disgaea has been exclusive to Playstation since the first game on the PS2 only a visual novel landed on a DS or some nintendo handheld outside from that they have been so close to Sony that they could just be counted as a 1st party studio at this point.

USF4 is being ported by SONY not Capcom, sony was the one that paid the port of the game and is porting the game to PS4, it wasnt Capcom wanting to take the game to next gen and avoiding the X1, or Sony buying exclusive rights, its simply that Sony paid for the port and MSFT hasnt paid for any port of the game.

Japanease titles and/or games from small studios that can handle only one (or two) platforms at any time and don´t want the incovinient of negociating the pos parity clause.

+ Sony moneyhating Capcon with Street Fighter.

They didn't moneyhat Street Fighter, they funded it.

Also for the indie games, Sony have been treating them well since this generation started and most indie developers have noticed that.

Lol yep, the biggest fighter around had to be funded. Call a spade a spade, it's a money hat.

And there is no shock that Japanese games aren't coming to the xbox one. doesn't mean anything other than the fact that xbox just doesn't sell in Japan.

Looks like the same situation as the 360 was in.

Sucks for those who care about those types of games. But those people are the minority.

I agree that MS should try to entice more japanese developers to port their games to the xbox one. It would make the xbox one's library more diverse and build a better relationship with the japanese in general. That will probably lead to better sales in japan and around the world with future consoles. People other than japanese play japanese games.

It would make a difference on here at the very least. If the majority of the world's gamers have similar opinions on it.....

Yep, it did. It's amazing how people can just ignore facts that Capcom was in financial trouble and that Ono himself stated that they didn't have the funds to start development on the next Street Fighter game. The earliest we would have gotten SFV without Sony was 2018. But yeah, if it helps you, ignore facts buddy. No see, Tomb Raider is a straight out money hat, it was announced last year at E3 2014, but it wasn't announced exclusive until 2 months later at Gamescom.

Also I'm not sure why people are expecting Japanese games for Xbox One, the only reason the 360 got them was because Microsoft went around handing out bags of money too developers and actually had a decent install base, but 60k or whatever it is at currently, is not enough for Japanese game developers.

A site full of Nintendo fans and about half of the Sony fans are going to pick Japanese. If you want the opinions of the world's gamers just look at the sales.
