Definitely makes sense, im soooo surprised but not really SE never localized DQVII to the west, and they probably wont do DQVIII neither. Well E3 is almost here, maybe they'll..... nahhh they wont.

It's ok, they couldn't bring DQ VII on 3DS to the west, translating it would have taken too much work, that PS1 translation really wouldn't have cut it. :D

DQ VIII being remade for 3DS and DQ X still not being on PS3/4 (though that could be a contractual thing) kinda goes against it though. On the other hand they've already announced a second Dragon Quest Heroes, so they seem to be happy with its performance and SE as a whole is extremely obviously putting a lot of eggs into the PS4 basket this gen (the eastern studios at least), so it would in a way make sense to put DQ XI on PS4 especially if Horii wants to make the next game for home consoles.

Certainly hope it'll be a PS4 game. A new classic DQ on the big screen? Sign me up for that. As a PS4 game the probability of it coming to the west would also be significantly larger.

Actually, if it comes to ps4, there is a higher chance for SE to release it WW. But if it's on wii U, there is a higher chance Nintendo pushes for a ww release (funding).

I don't see DQ being console exclusive tbh, I think XI is either 3DS bound or Wii U/PS4 as consoles in Japan are dead and the general rule has been each new mainline game is bound for the top selling platform in Japan.

The only mainline that didn't come is X and it makes sense that it would stay in japan (server costs on MMO, can't provide servers WW without being sure it will be a hit)

Except Sony wants to push PS4 in japan. It would be a good investment.

Makes sense to be on PS4 if it's a home console experience. If SE want it to sell in the West at all it needs to be on PS4.

Well too bad Sony don't make the decision and only Horii does, portables are demolishing consoles in Japan, 3DS has sold 19m in Japan while the Wii U and PS4 don't even have 4m units total sold, no push is going to overcome that unless they give consoles away for free.

The West doesn't matter, it only matters in japan because Japan is where 95% of its sales come from (This is a franchise where West isnt as close as big for the IP). That said, How do we know a ps4 version would outsell 3ds version in the West? I could of sworn i heard similar things with MH (has to be on Console) yet it just sold 1mil+ on 3ds (in the West) ;-D

 

Edit: Well its hard to tell, DQVIII and DQIX both did well and are the only ones to do so (one is a ps2 game and the other is a DS game)
