Forums - Sony Discussion - Forget 2015, 2016 is going to be the biggest year in PS console exclusive in years

So I decided I've complained enough about the current PS4 exclusive situation and am now moving to looking ahead. Below you will see the accumulated software sales of all PS console (not handheld) exclusives that made it into the top 100 of the yearly charts in the last years.

2009 7647937
2010 17967174
2011 14166969
2012 6338863
2013 13391190
2014 11152897

Why only the games that made it into the top 100? Because I'm way too lazy to go through the whole database checking out yearly sales of all PS console exclusives and adding them up, should anyone want to do that, then I'll gladly change the numbers. Other then that there's only one limitations to what I'm counting the game can not have appeared on a non-PS console in the counted year.

What I'm proposing, or rather maybe prematurely, predicting is that Sonys console exclusive software sales in 2016 are going to be higher than any of the years above and my reasons for that are as follows:

The following games are either already locked as 2016 releases or are pretty likely to come that year: UC4, SFV, R&C, GT7 and GGs' new IP.

Of those UC4, SFV and GT7 are guaranteed multimillion sellers. I think it is at this point more or less expected that UC4 will be the biggest in the series yet, so what we can we expect from it coming out in the spring? 5mil in 2016? 6m? At least 5m sounds pretty likely to me. Capcom is expecting SFV to sell(ship) 2m this fiscal year on PS4 and PC, that's only until the end of march, in my opinion the game can surely go up to 2m or more on PS4 alone until the end of the year (SFIV sold 3m on PS3+360 in its first year). And the first GT on the next generation is bound to shift a couple million units, though how much is really depending on its release date.

R&C and GGs game are harder to guess, but the first R&C game managed to sell over 3m units and the movie marketing tactic could potentially really help the game, I'm quite sure it'll pass the 1m mark at least. Same with Horizon, all I've heard about this game makes it sound as if Sony is really trying to back this project and make it something big, so I'd say no matter the outcome of the game a million should still be pretty likely.

Now for things that are less likely or that I'm just not too sure to say anything about: Bends game, Level 5s JRPG, Morpheus games including MMs game (I'm pretty sure it'll be a morpheus title at this point).

Regarding Bends game I must just say that I'm clueless when it comes to Sony Bend, having never played a single game by them, I'm really not sure if it'll come next year, though a lot of people seem to be expecting it. Anyway their Uncharted Vita game was well received and sold very well on Vita (the name helped obviously), so their PS4 game could also become a hit, who knows.

Level 5 has grown substantially in Japan in the last years and their last PS3 release also garnered a lot of love in the west, if they stick to their winning formula then they'll surely appear in the top 100 should they release next year, but there's always the chance of them producing a WKC type dud, which I natrually hope isn't going to happen.

Morpheus is kind of a dark horse, should it take of then the software that's Morpheus enabled is going to take of as well, at least some of that software should be PS console exclusive.

Finally there's games from this year having legs: UC Collection, No Man's Sky, maybe (hopefully) Bloodborne, maybe Persona 5

UC Collection should be pretty obvious I'd say.

NMS depends on if it'll get a retail release so it can be counted here and if it delivers on its promise, if it delivers it can become a sort of evergreen comparable to Minecraft.

Bloodborne will hopefully continue to sell due to pricecuts and editions containing the DLC

And Persona 5, kinda depends on its release, it could very well slip into 2016 (plz don't) even if maybe only in the west, should it, then I think it'll sell enough to make the top 100.

I'm pretty sure I forgot some stuff, so you guys can add things, but the gist of it is that I think 2016 will beat 2010 in PS homeconsole exclusive sales.

Thoughts?

inb4 everything will be delayed

I think it'll be tough to beat 2010 but it's very likely it can beat any other year on that list.

I could have swore I heard this argument last year. And the year before.

We always say the same thing every year.

Then all get delayed to 2017

But OT, as I believe GT will release this year, nope, it's really unlike you can top 2010 without GT, of course that if it's a December release it'll spread a lot of sales to 2016, but then the other games will have to sell a lot to cover what got in 2015.

I'm curious to see TLOU2 year, 'cause that will be the year if it comes in 2018 together with GT8.

We have Uncharted 4, SFV and Rachet for early 2016, at the worst it'll be delayed to Holiday 2016 so it'll definitely be a good year. And hopefully GG's Horizon  game comes out in 2016.

Well, it certainly will be easy to forget 2015. Not just PS4 exclusives, to me this year is almost completely void of interesting titles.
Started strong with Dying Light, and all downhill from there. I am only looking forward to Just Cause (watch it get delayed), and Mad Max (pending reviews, there is still a decent chance it will suck).

2016 is looking very good, getting Uncharted is already a huge win, all the rest is a welcome bonus.

Very interesting thread. Even though it'll be tough to beat 2010's nearly 18 mill games sold I think it's possible considering the success of PS4 and the launch of PSVR.

So true.

With the delay of Gran Turismo Sport and Horizon (coupled with Street Fighter V bombing) this went from a "most likely, yes" to a "most likely, no".

2010 will continue to be the best year for sales of PS exclusives.
