Forums - Gaming Discussion - Japanese or Western Games?

Which do you prefer?

Japanese 122 65.24%

Western 50 26.74%

See results 13 6.95%

tbh, I don't really care which country it's from, as long as I enjoy the game, that's all that matters for me.

Wait, so have you played the other FF games?? O:

I've played through Fatal Frame 4 and the Wii remake of Fatal Frame 2 multiple times, and dabbled in Fatal Frame 1 on PS2, yes.

That`s good to hear. I`m a big fan of the series myself, so I would have recommended playing them all, haha....

The only ones I've missed so far are Fatal Frame 3 and the 3DS spinoff. I'll get around to them someday I suppose, at the moment I'm more focused on 5. ;)

Western horror games just don't quite have the same unsettling creepiness. The Japanese ones I find far scarier.

Definitely agree here. I don`t like how the west does horror. I can only get spooked by jump scares so much before it gets old, and I`m not much for slasher films either. The east does it right ; ) ( I recomment 3 also. It`s my 2nd fav after 1. )

I swear I've seen this same thread so many times before...

Anyway, Japanese all the way for me. Besides a few franchises (mostly past entries) such as Twisted Metal, Mortal Kombat, X-Men Legends, Crash, Need For Speed... Western games rarely appeal to me.

I'm all about them Monster Hunters, Pokemons, Final Fantasies, Sonics, Tales, and many many others.

I really like Japanese games from Japanese companies.. so Japanese Games is my vote!

Japan has given me a lot of gems, but the sheer number of loved titles from the West makes me choose them.

West narrowly edges out Japan. Very tough question honestly

I try not to be prejudice about that kind of stuff, but I do find myself enjoying Japanese games more. In my opinion, a lot of Western games these days are spending time and resources on the wrong things, Like realistic graphics, cinematics, and advertising value. I think a larger proportion of Japanese games focus more on what matters, such as the gameplay and story.

The results and sales barely correlate...

I prefer Japanese games because they constantly and inherently taught me that it was okay to make something different be something different as long as you own it. Much of it was through RPGs but I owe my sense of gaming to Japanese developers. Mario, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Zelda, I mean... all the big wigs came from that little island. I honestly thank God for the creative minds because I don't know what I'd be doing today (hobby wise) without their games. Japan all the way!

I wasn't listing the best selling franchises to make a claim that there is a correlation.

I just listed them to give well-known examples of each region's games.
