Japanese console and handheld games.

Western indie and PC games.

There are some exceptions of course.

I'm playing more Japanese games recently, but that can change. I mostly played Western games on PC during the Wii-generation for example.

Western, but not because of the games you listed.

Japanese games appeal to me more.

Until the past year I'd of voted Japanese but with the decline/going mobile of JRPG's I think I have to vote for Western now.

Metal Gear Solid, Persona, Yakuza >>>>>>> all
So, japanese games!

Definitely Japanese for me. They aren't as good as they used to be and Western games are definitely a lot better than they used to be, but still the prospect of a new Japanese game just excites me more than a new western game. That's true both for long running franchises that I'm a fan of and for new IPs.

Same here. My dad raised me on Japanese NES and SNES games. I've found that in the 7th gen, Japanese generally devs lost their way with the advent of HD development. I lean towards Western games now, but not the ones listed. I have much more respect for the minimalism of Japanese game design than the set-piece oriented design of some Western games (not all, but many popular games fall under this category). Anything that doesn't add to the game needs to go, IMO.

Currently (Re-)Playing: Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void Multiplayer, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Currently Watching: The Shield, Stein's;Gate, Narcos

Japanese games all the way. Western games are a bit too realistic for me, and not as interesting. Japanese games have all sorts of great variety : )

I like both. But as a whole Western games tend to play it safe and aim for pretty graphics, realism, and use western story cliches that I can spot from a mile away -none of that really appeals to me XD graphics don't age well, games that look good now will look like dog shit in less than 15 years so it's not a factor to me, I like escaping realism so that doesn't work for me either, and western cliches annoy me, thats why I really watch movies anymore -I can predict how it'll all work out 15 minutes in. So most western games aren't my cup of tea. Plus I dont like my games being like movies that much either

Japanese tend to use more stylized graphics so even when they're old they look nice (Wind Waker, Persona, Dragon Quest 8, etc.), they tend to be really out there too, something I love since it's a nice change compared to the "super mature" western games, and they lack western cliches most of the time! :3 I bet they have a lot of Japanese cliches but since I'm not familiar with them (besides the old RPG cliches or being orphans or being royalty or whatever) they don't really bother me.

So for me Japanese

Japanese; the majority of my favourites come from them.
Not just Nintendo but also stuff like Bayonetta, Monster Hunter, Fatal Frame...
