Ugh, I should've realized you meant that.

And it's not likely to change in the next couple of years until we get a change of government, particularly PM. I don't doubt that it would pass here easily though.

Yeah, ol' Tony is on record saying he feels "threatened" by gays.
And yes, it would easily pass; as of July 2014, 72% of Australians supported marriage equality, with 7% undecided and 21% opposed, plus support was trending upwards while opposition was in decline. http://www.crosbytextor.com/news/record-support-for-same-sex-marriage/

Yes this is the case. It was simply a matter of it being written in the Irish Constitution so any changes to the constitution(which dates back to 1920's so it's understandable it was there) have to put to a referendum.
Personally I would have liked to see marriage removed from the COnstitution as I don't think the State should be involved in people's private matters. But I voted Yes because as long as the state are involved, I want them to be involved fairly and equally.
Dunno if I'm missing something here but hasn't gay marriage been available in England for years now? I even went to one (my friend who I've know since I was about 4-5yo got married to a French dude) a couple of years ago.

You are missing a lesson in geography, as Ireland is a different country, a bit northwest of England.
Hmm, I wonder if there's connection between same sex marriage recognition and the size of the budget blackhole? There must be some correlation.

The same caucus that voted in Obama in office twice who is now tearing the US apart from within. A sad day indeed for those who believe in family values and the social order of the universe. But the fight will continue. Praise Allah. |
so, you value forced marriages, not seldomly between children, over consenting adults forming a union out of love? so much for your morals and your family values

Funny that, it appears you've misread my post, I know exactly where Ireland is. What im saying is, the op says Ireland the first to doit, but what I'm saying is I'm positive England has already done this years ago as I've even been to a gay wedding a couple of years ago in England.
