Forums - Politics Discussion - Congrats Ireland! First country to recognize Same Sex Marriage by Pop Vote!

I think its great more and more countries are opening up to same sex marriage. I don't know why some people have a problem with gay marriage. Anyway congrats ireland, welcome to the club!

I find, and I'm been involved with this most of my life, that they are usually VERY PERSONAL reasons if someone is against it.  Either themselves or someone very close to them - take 'Dr.' Laura Schlesinger - she wasn't anti gay at all till someone pointed out her kid was like the gayest acting kid they had ever met.  Suddenly she goes anti gay.  Then mega super anti gay.

I would be curious to sit quietly and have a talk with some of the people on this thread that are so anti gay or terrified by it.  If you aren’t gay, then same sex marriage doesn’t directly effect you – maybe a sibling or someone you would like to see married.

Some places still do not let women use birth control or even vote, drive or hold a job.  I think it's crazy, but we still need civilization to evolve.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

we basically elevate their status to that of a straight couple despite one serious flaw. Homosexuals can't conceive by nature. As such, the argument is that marriage should be reserved for natural unions only. I don't want to glorify homosexuality and marriage is one way to celebrate and glorify it. I think it is inferior to a straight relationship because they can't conceive.

Elderly straight couples or straight couples where one or both partners are infertile cannot concieve naturally either; do you want to stop them marrying?

No.

You can talk to me any time, just send me a PM if you want a more personalized conversation. No one in my family is gay. I dated a girl whose father was gay and I had no problems with him personally. He was a nice man though he did abandon the family when the children were young causing some serious psychological problems in my fiancee.

Also I didn't know who Laura S was so I looked her up. She's made some sensible comments which reflect ancient wisdom long forgotten in this liberal progressive society. For example, it's very true that women don't know how to make us men feel like men anymore.

Well, look at Laura S a little deeper, every few years she completly switches plans.  She talks about how marriage is sacret, but slept with a married man to get her radio job.  She talks about parents and family being important, but she neglected and ignored her mother so much that she was dead on the floor for months before the neighbors reported a bad smell (family values indeed.)

To respond to your other part, if you need someone else to make you feel something about yourself, you might want examine that and talk to someone about it.

Also, you probably do have gay people in your family, they either have passed and you didn't know or are not comfortable sharing it with you (possibly themselves.)

Anyway, the world is moving towards acceptance of more same sex married couples.  It's a good thing and will make the world a better place in the now and the future.  When gay couples get married they make society stronger.

I'm really happy about this, cause it does affect m directly (not Ireland, just the situation)

Come on USA, you have 13 states to go.

Sad day indeed and against family and human nature.

people should have the freedom to do whatever they want once they are not infringing on the rights of others

Whereas this is generally true, your statement should be "The Freedom to be who they were born as and be able to be who they are regardless of legal standards"

Because we don't choose to be homosexual. Which is why we deserve the same rights as anyone else.

You aren't taught how to be gay or straight

You are taught how to be hateful

Which is why it's "personal" when something happens.

You are raised by a family, and weather that family teaches you acceptance or teaches you hate is how you generally grow up.

Actually, as far as the US goes, it's currently with the Supreme Court, because the precedent they set in the current case they're fielding, will have a dramatic ripple effect.  This isn't unusual for how America works either, many of the hot button social issues are relegated to State authority, until such a time where a super majority has chosen a side...which is when the SCOTUS usually hears the case.  We're at that point now *fingers crossed*  US has so many other issues to tackle, really embarassing that we're still denying equal rights in what is quite clearly an equal rights case.

No.

Then the ability to biologically reproduce must not be all that important after all.

We've been over this, the argument is conceptual. So anyone conceptually able to conceive children would be entitled to marriage regardless of individual potency. Two homosexuals can't conceive a child naturally therefore they are excluded.
