Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why I think the Xbox One will not be Microsoft's last home console.

Will Microsoft abandon console gaming?

Nope, xbox is a strong part of Microsoft. 71 43.83%

Yes, it loses money and sucks. 43 26.54%

No, but PC will be the focus. 37 22.84%

Microsoft will ditch gaming entirely. 10 6.17%

Same, I think xbox as at least one more gen after the current gen

lol @ the 11 voter for "it loses money, and suck"

unless sony and nintendo microsoft makes at least a decent profit on theire gaming bussines

As long as Bing, Windows Phone, and Surface Tablets exist, Xbox will exist.

Its all about keeping your foot in the market. If they time the next gen right, get a year on the PS5 and get good PR day 1, then they will have far more revenue then they do now.

Besides, it gives MS a brand presence in the living room.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

There will be another Xbox console, no doubt about that. Not that I would mind if they just went the Steam route, since I plan on getting into PC gaming rather soon hopefully.

Maybe. Maybe not. Depends on how profitable the system is over the course of its life. If Xbox has an overall mediocre to negative performance in terms of profitability, MS may go third-party. Their software is likely far more profitable than their hardware.

They break even or even make a profit at 350$. The console business is never that profitable, even with software. In fact, the 360 and original losts billions, they're still in the business though.

Hopefully they come out with another console competition is good

Wasn't aware people thought this was the last Xbox. Sony vs Nintendo would be boring.

Well, in a way, there are many 'gaming' consoles anymore. They are all multi-media consoles - even the Vita and even the 3DS can ( or were supposed to) show some movies. All can browse the web, etc.

Remember Microsoft Home? A little thing you plug into your TV to do web browsing and email. A friend had it and she loved it. But it sucked, but it sucked because the TV back then were not nearly as good as your monitor. And now TV's are awesome with 4k becoming the new standard.

There also isn't any reason this Xbox One can't run Excel and a bunch of other regular business apps. So how will the home console evolve? I'm not really sure.

If I can dictate to Cortana and have write things down, then why not have voice activated email on my Xbox? Would that still be a 'game console?' Or would you call it something else?

There will probably be an Xbox Next, but what all it will do is uncertain.

What would you like to see it do, that it doesn't do now?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Well we all know the future will be a $50-100 box that will plug into a tv or pc and stream games, Its just when it happens 2019 or 2025.

If we went by the loosing money route X1 or the PS4 wouldn't exist.

I personally think the future is VR once they have made it comfortable with no eye strain or dizziness. That might take a couple of generations of VR to gain mass acceptance. The future may be; Xbox VR, Playstation VR, Steam VR, Google VR etc. It's going to be about who makes the best VR experiences/content and clearly all of those companies are major players. I suspect Nintendo will withdraw from the home console market but expand its handheld line into mobile phones etc.
