Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sorry 3DS, it's not you, it's me

The games you listed are much better tailored for a home console.I don´t enjoy home console like games on handhelds.

Instead of Wind Waker, they should´ve remade Ocarina of Time for the Wii U, a remake of that legendary game deserved far far better than a tiny screen.

The advantage of the portables depend on you. If you compare it to playing on a TV uninterrupted, ofc its gonna feel worse.
It depends on wich conditions you have in your life. If you travel alot, it can be useful. If like me you are a bit insomniac, its easier to play at night than on a TV just out of respect for your significant other or roomates.
Its also very easy to pick up and play. You can leave it closed and open it again whenever you want and continue where you left off without spending tons on electricity bills. Its also good for shorter bursts of play.

Both handhelds and home consoles have advantages and disadvantages. There's some games (AA, Layton, DR) which I couldn't imagine playing on a home console, and vice versa. I also quite enjoy playing some old school JRPG's on it, too.

Having said that, I most certainly isn't for everyone and I can agree with your critiques. But at the same time a handheld is designed to accompany the home console experience and to offer something new and different on the Go; not to replace it completely. Perhaps that is where your list of games; many of which have been on home consoles; is letting you down a touch.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

honestly I used to prefer home console but atm am enjoying 3DS and Vita more lol.

No wonder you came to that conclusion, you haven't played the best games on the system!

Aka The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Those games are great on the 3DS , but tbh i want a fire emblem main game for the Wii U, with really good graphics, and much bigger game.

Oh, I definitely agree. I will always prefer console releases to handheld ones, but I've definitely grown a fondness for the 3DS in recent months. It's a great little device.

And even though it's not exactly the same, we are getting SMTxFE for the Wii U and I'm really looking forward to it. The fact that we'll probably get a main Fire Emblem for 3DS and a big spinoff for Wii U in the same year is the best.

About the same, but far worse. It's still good though.

Worse? How so?

He's full of shit. The game is fantastic.

Welp, I must say that I wholeheartedly agree with the OP's premise.

For some reason, I ranked up hours and hours and hours into the original Nintendo DS. Mostly for its novelty, but also because it is a beast of a machine with quality games here and there. However, I was a kid back then, and had so much free time to spare that it is not even funny the amount of hours spent into hobbies back then.

Fast forward some years and now everytime I get some time for myself, I am mostly at home. I can't seem to get into 3DS, no matter what. I remember playing the Resident Evil Revelations demo and thinking to myself how awesome it was; Capcom released a physical console version, which I nabbed, and never looked back.

I have Fire Emblem Awakening sitting there, waiting for me to finish it; but I just simply can't do it. I can't seem to boot up 3DS and start playing properly without getting tired of the handheld and switching to play on my computer or the console. At this rate I pretty much doubt I'll ever get another game for my 3DS (aside from Phoenix Wright; which undoubtedly I'd rather have them release on WiiU or somewhere else).

Every time I look at the 3DS, I get disenchanted with it more and more.

Okay, so I've had a New 3DS XL, my first ever handheld, for more than 3 months now.

I've played Monster Hunter 4, Ocarina 3D, Starfox 64 3D, Mario 3D Land, Resident Evil Revelations, Kid Icarus, and Ironfall.

But whenever I play, I just can't stop thinking "this would be so much better on a proper screen, with a proper controller". The tiny screen and the tightly clustered buttons and sticks just gnaw at me.

No matter how good the games are, I just don't think the handheld experience itself will ever be my cup of tea.

I feel exactly the same way.  Imagine how many people would have paid good money for Majora's Mask or OoT remakes on Wii U in full HD with dual analog control.  Huge missed opportunity.  I hope that with Nintendo's next-gen platform, the split of resources and games between handheld and console is gone, and both platforms just get everything.

I have long since outgrown handhelds.  I just don't want to play anything on one.  Maybe if I was traveling constantly I would feel differently, I don't know.  But I want to play games on console, in full HD, with a dual analog controller.  That's what I prefer.
