Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Sorry 3DS, it's not you, it's me

Awww, such a shame as it's my favorite gaming platform this gen (that I have, at least). I haven't even gotten to some of the best games yet, either like Fire Emblem, Majora's Mask, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Tomodachi Life and the Pokemons.

Totally agree that every single game would look better on the big screen and that my hands cramp like a mofo within minutes of playing. Doesn't take away from the amazingness of the games, though.

Maybe someday they'll make an adapter that lets us play 3ds games on the big screen. Until then, at least you gave it a fair shot and know it's not for you.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I think I own about 50 3DS games, but I can't say I would have wanted to play any of them on my television. A handheld is so much more convenient for me these days. I can play on my 3DS while my wife watches television, I can take it with me... To the bathroom, which is a big plus as well Also, it's always turned on, sleeping in its cradle. So when I want to start playing a game, I can delve into it immediately, without installs, without updates, without any hassle to deal with. It's by far my favorite console ever, also because of backwards compatibility and the eshop.

That kinda defeats the purpose of a handheld hahahaha xD

I only got it cos it was the only place I could play Monster Hunter 4.

This is a great example of why Nintendo should go for a unified platform where all or most games are available on either form factor.

It seems like u enjoy or are interested in many handheld titles, the problem is that u don't like the form factor so Nintendo is/has/will lose potential software sales by those games not being on a home console form factor as well.

I also nearly only play at home, but I actually like the screen being close up to my face. On the tv-screen, I tend to miss stuff like an enemy that's hiding somewhere and I am less accurate with for example jumps. The 3D feature of the 3DS actually made that worse, I now die in the most silly ways on the tv-screen.

I also play my WiiU in Gamepad mode more often than not to have the screen up close to me. Consoles usually win in quality of the games, but  library-wise, it's no contest right now as the 3DS beats every other 8th gen console combined with it's many excellent games.

I give you the controls though, usually those are better on a console because of the sturdier buttons and better placement. Except on the WiiU sadly. Even though I can put the screen in my face, for some reason they thought it was a good idea to have the tiny flimsy handheld-style buttons as ABXY-buttons instead of the bigger and more solid ones like the A button of the Wii Remote or the facebuttons on every other console they had before that...

Welcome to the console elitist club :)

i have a 3Ds and played AC: NL and Smash mostly. I can't play if I'm on the bus due to motion sickness and even looking at my phone reading or playing any mobile game for a longer time makes me dizzy.

i'm with Curl loves to play handheld at home. but handhelds are great due to portability and you can bring it with you anywhere. like the other poster(s) have mentioned bring it with you, play in the hotel, etc...

the hardware specs would surely be lower than home console, but 3Ds is not also on par with Vita in terms of screen resolution. my 3Ds is now with my daughter and she loves to play Smash there. She loves MK8 on the Wii U and got the MK7 as my Nintendo Reward game, hopefully she'll love playing MK on the 3Ds like she loves playing it on the Wii U.

Oh I've been a console elitist since forever; it wasn't until this Feb that I reluctantly bought my first handheld, and after a few months I think it's safe to say I'm not handing in my console master race card any time soon. ;)

I honestly don't mind playing on either handhelds or consoles, feels like the same experience to me. I can see where you're coming from though.
