Forums - Gaming Discussion - Good RPG's with bad/mediocre stories

Something a lot of RPG's are praised for are their great stories they have

However, sometimes an RPG just doesn't deliver when it comes to story

Any good RPG's that come to mind that don't have very good stories?

I gotta say Paper Mario, probably my one my favorite N64 game, but the story is still, "Save Peach from Bowser"

So, what say you?

Xenosaga III

EDIT:NOPE NOPE NOPE. I thought it said Scores, not stories.

Earthbound. It's an excellent game, but ultimately, it's about saving the world, and that's pretty generic by today's standards.

Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Solid RPG, but I never cared for the story, and the couple plot twists in the game were pretty lame.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

The Elder Scrolls Oblivion's main story is just meh, but the game is absolutely awesome.

Like Partners in time, Bowser inside story, and Luigi dream land.

All epic games, one of my favourite series of JRPG. But mediocre story...

I don't think there is such a thing as a good RPG with a bad story...

Probably all Pokemon games.

Not bad but mediocre compared to several, the Icewind dale games. Great RPGs.
There are a lot that don't have a good plot but have good dialog/characters so the story ends up being good in some ways.

If you consider Fallout 3 a RPG, then you have another example!
