Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is Highest-Funded Gaming Kickstarter Ever, Smashes More Stretch Goals

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the game from Koji Igarashi, the former director of Castlevania, is now the highest-funded Kickstarter ever for a game. The game has beaten out other games such as Torment: Tides of Numenera, Pillars of Eternity, and Mighty No. 9.

With more than $4.4 million raised, with Paypal donations included, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has shattered a few more stretch goals. In addition to orchestrated tracks, Bloodstained will feature an online challenge mode and a third playable character. At $4.5 and $4.75 million, there will be a prequel mini-game developed for consoles and handhelds, respectively. The final stretch goal, set at $5 million, will lead to the inclusion of a rogue-like dungeon.

For more information, check out the official Kickstarter page. There are still 35 hours left of funding for the project.

Amazing how much money people blindly throw at a game. It has less backers than Yooka-Laylee and no footage.

This has KS disaster written all over it.

Are you familiar with the people involved in this? They are the people who made a better Metroid than Nintendo.

And yep, I blindly threw $100 at it. IGA is awesome and I've made far more than that selling his previous titles on ebay when clearing out my old game collection.

That said, not sure why it has "disaster" written all over it. Do you have grounds for that belief? They set a realistic initial goal and are veteran game developers. The Kickstarter disasters are the ones who woefully underbudget and over aim. This suffers from non of that. It also has a publisher already signed up and an established developer contracted to aid the Wii U/Vita versions.

It's no where near as likely to encounter the development issues those Kickstarter disasters face. $500,000 was budgeted to do a complete game. The most they expected was $700,000. The huge failures clearly needed a bigger budget than their kickstarter goals stated.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

That's why Castlevania is as good as a dead franchise lol.

Look at Mighty no. 9, same company co-developing it and it looks like arse (mighty no. 9 that is).

Actually, Castlevania is as good as dead as a franchise because of the publisher's stupid decision, "no market for the 2D one anymore" (which this Kickstarter proves is wrong).

As for Mighty No. 9... fixed your post for you ;)

Though not sure what you mean by "same company co-developing it"... The creator of Megaman created a new company, that made great titles like Soul Sacrifice. However wanted to ressurect his baby given Capcom were determined to kill it off despite the demand.

Now Capcom have the cheek to be putting out a Megaman compilation at the same time Mighty No 9 is due to ship just to cash in on the hype of that game.

You're saying the great Iga can't make great 3D Metroidvania games? Nintendo can. ;)

Looking at the sales of Castlevania games I can't blame the publisher for canning the franchise.

But yeah, Mighty no. 9 is the reason why I'm so sceptical. And no, I don't think it looks good.

Current castlevania games are dead. This game is more like castlevania symphony of the night. Over five million dollars invested begs to differ on this metroidvania style game being dead.

Lords of Shadow was the most successful game in the franchise to date (which would say Metroidvania is dead and Metroid should also become a God of War clone right?). Lords of Shadow 2 was an error of judgement in the platforms they opted for. The 3DS spinoff was just a mistake full stop. However, prior to that, many the "IGAvania" games have been pure gold, in fact there wasn't a single bad 2D one! (These are Symphony of the Night, the GBA, DS ones) That is why so many people are excited for more.

The 2D ones are a different beast to the 3D games. Though what "Metroidvania" have Nintendo made? Retro are the only developer to pull that one off. Maybe that's why Nintendo relegated them to 2D games afterwards? :P

Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid: Zero Mission.

And Retro is Nintendo.

I thought Lords of Shadows was more action orientated and not a Metroidvania game? Haven't played it.

Was meant to be 3D Metroidvania. (I actually hate that term, Metroid Clone suits me better).

Yes, Lords of Shadow was a God of War clone, hence the suggestion that Metroid should also become God of War based on your logic as it would surely be even more popular that way ;)
