Pros: Unified Library
Cons: Why buy both? = loss in sales

There could be certain incentives to buy both, perhaps their are minor differences in the game depending on what device u play it on or maybe extra features when linking both devices together.

Perhaps u prefer playing certain games on a portable, something like Pokémon or Animal Crossing where u can easily play for just a few minutes at a time between classes, during breaks at work, on public transportation, while waiting in line, etc. and perhaps u enjoy playing more epic, visually demanding games that require longer play sessions like Zelda or Xenoblade at home on ur big screen HDTV. Someone like that may buy both.

Maybe ur a family person and get a couple of the portable versions for ur kids and the console version for at home so u can all play together.

The "Fusion" rumor doesn't have anything about the two devices sharing the same library. It honestly sounds just like how everything is today, but with made up specs that make no sense.

So...

Pro: Things stay the same.

Con: The specs are silly.

Bets:

1. If the Wii U sells closer to 10 million LTD by 1/3/2015 I win. If it sells closer to 9.5 million LTD by 1/3/2015 OfficerRaichu15 wins (winner gets 2 weeks of avatar control)--Lost.

And while i agree it is too soon, i can only see cons.

Pros
-Less or no software droughts from Nintendo

-certain games less likely to underperform due to being on a single device with a low install base like certain Wii U games

-can get the full Nintendo experience on a single device

-more freedom to choose device which suits ur personal preferences

-increased chances of new ip and dormant franchises being released

Cons

-Nintendo might lose out on hardware sales now that people may not buy both form factors

What if fusion is not 1 device but several devices like an android phone and and android tablet are? Not hardware but software FUSION.
Then people that want to play their games on the go still need the portable device and cant just "grab" their WiiU gamepad successor and go outside. They would still need 2 devices.

In case of NIntendo I can play the same game on both systems but the portable one gets like 800x400 with medium settings and lower polycount and the console gets the same product with 1080p60 with AA and tesselation and higher polycount on ultra?

The resolution alone makes a 6.5x performance difference remove the AA and all the other console "extras"and the thing can very well be 10x-15x slower than the console.

You know kinda like this:

The only lost sales would be because there wont be "must have" portable exclusives because they also work on the console unless there are some specific games that only work with one of the devices like most VITA games dont work on PS TV or like Xenoblade 3DS does not work on old3DS.

Would u kindly list what u believe the cons are?

I assume that you could play together without getting the console version.. just link the handheld fusion together.

But, I want to avoid an argument about this so I won't elaborate on why I think it would sell less.

I agree that it would be multiple devices, I mean now some people own both a 3DS & Wii U because they have separate exclusive titles, there is potential if future devices have the same library that some people will no longer buy both devices and will simply choose the one that fits their game style better.

Are we talking about the Fusion strategy where both devices share the same library? That's what i have in mind to give my opinion.

Cons: less HW sold in the Nintendo fanbase.

Pros: Better, more diverse library helps it sell to the MS and Sony crowd.

Other Pros would include financial gains on game development budgets and no more marketing sacrífices (Wii U was sacrificed in favor of 3DS in 2013), amongst others.

I'm not trying to argue, just discuss..........u know the whole point of a forum

I would honestly like to know why u think it would sell less.

Dunno why but kinda read it like   "1 thing that has a gamepad that also is a handheld you can take with you."  (IGN NVC video talked about that and that was stuck in my head xD) sry.

I see a problem with fusion tho.
How would you take a 40GB Xenoblade Chronicles X or Zelda game with you on the go?

I mean yes the medium settings version can be shrinked and the cutscenes can have lower resolution but it still is problematic.

Cartridges? instead of disks for both machines? Way to expensive.  Disks for both devices? Power consumption is a problem with spinning drives also they "break" easily = no go for handhelds.
The easiest solution would be Online-only like on smartphones etc. BUT  Nintendo gamers are the most value oriented imo. Digital only is nothing they want.
The handheld needs to support fast and huge SD cards. And the console should def come with a HDD bay and one SKU with 1TB for the people that need to buy consoles with harddrives (I dont. I have enough spare harddrives so I just want some kind of HDD slot/bay)

At retail we will probably still get disks for the console and cartridges for the handheld. (but that kinda defeats the 1 fusion principle at least partially)

Also how to give people that own both portable and console the same game? They would need to have some kind of "CD key" that they have to register with their NNID to get a downloadable version for the other device. But since the portable and console version is basically the same can the portable version cost 60 bucks like the console version? Will people buy that? Or will all versions be 40 bucks? Or will only console buyers get the other version and if you buy the handheld game you are stuck with only the handheld version?
