Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Witcher 3 Is Not Fun To Play (But The Quests Are Godly)

Second impressions, or first after actually playing the game:

Great start of the story. I set the language to Polish for that extra bit of immersion. Luckily I have a projector as I don't think the subtitles will be a comfortable read on a tv. (It does sound a bit like playing a tape backwards at times)

The cut scenes suffer from constant judder, almost like there's a 3:2 pulldown filter over it. The game itself runs smooth luckily. Camera movement is fine for me, yet I'm now used to treating the analog stick as if defusing a bomb after playing project cars :)

Movement is indeed akward, the same as I remember from Witcher 2. Which I played with keyboard and mouse, controller movement feels a lot like using the wasd keys, no analog feel to it.

Color / lighting is a bit off too. It makes it look a bit like a pastel painting which is not a bad thing. It goes with the low res feel of the scenery. There's plenty eye candy anyway. First time on the horse I kept stopping every few steps to check out the scenery. The trees are all possessed though. I live around plenty trees, lots of wind, and whatever is going on in the witcher does not look natural. It's all moving in fast forward. Must be the magic.

I can't find a crossbow anywhere. Can anyone tell me how to obtain one?

Do the Griffin quest.

I am about to face the griffin now. Thought I had to find one before I faced him. I would have fought him hours ago. I've spent a good 6 hrs on side missions and searching trying to find one.

At least you got a chance to level up!

It's just like SvennoJ said, these trees look possessed, it's actually kinda funny.

I didn't even use the crossbow to kill it. My aim sucks, so I stuck with knocking him down with Aard and slashing him with the sword.

Haha dude you went the hard way, the crossbow kind of autofollows if you lock the aim on the enemy. But hey, if you did it with Aard it means you have more skills.

Well that didn't take long to break the game

Saving and quitting to main menu didn't help, full restart of the game luckily fixed it.

It's not a very sharp game for 1080p, but it does have a certain charm.

I played for an hour on tv today, can't read the inventory item descriptions. I also aborted the card game, too much squinting.
I can see that the backgrounds are low res, yet that doesn't mean I can read tiny fonts from 8ft away.
Bigger fonts, better textures, sharper backgrounds, still a long way to go to max out 1080p.

It's fun walking around so far.

I was expecting lots of nudity but glad there hasnt been any. Been playing and having lots of fun.
