Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Witcher 3 Is Not Fun To Play (But The Quests Are Godly)

I'm in deep love with this game, but then again I was a fan since the first one:

- The controls feel heavy and solid, they feel "real", like if you are really controlling a buffed swordsman with armor and equipment on him.
- The RPG elements are intrincate and fresh, they are different from the first two. The leveling, the crafting, the alchemy, the weapon damage, all great.
- Story is heavy and fleshed out, really draws you in.
- Combat is fantastic, it's complex and it's not just a button masher. You have to plan your potions, your bombs, your magic, practice your timing.
- World feels alive and dramatic, really makes you feel in a fantasy land ridden with war and monsters.
- Quests are meaningful and really add to the world, they are relevant to the context given by the story.
- Presentation and atmosphere are top notch even when they had to downgrade the graphics for the inferior hardware offered by home consoles. The wind moving the grass, the lush forests, the animals running in the fields, the peasants crying for their dead... everything looks and feel alive, makes you feel there.

All in all, 11/10 from me, game of the generation. Good work CD Projekt.

Seems like opinions are pretty mixed. By the sounds of it if you knew what to expect when you bought it then you shouldn't have a problem though

To be honest,  I'm not very clear what to expect.  Maybe I'm expecting a skyrim in third person type of game but apparently it's much more complex than that.  Anyway I will try my best to think it's a new type of game and try to be patient in the process.

Don't expect Skyrim in 3rd person, TES games have very simplistic melee combat. Indeed, maybe it's best for you, and all others who might have no previous experience with this sort of games, to think of it as new type, although it's really not new and it's, as I said few times already, heavily infuenced by Gothic franchise which exists since 2001.

Enjoying the game, but i did have to slow down how fast the camera pans as it made looking around and movement awkward. I am playing it on Blood and Broken Bones difficulty which seems fine. Just getting into it though, seems like it has lots of depth though and ways to develop your character.

@zero thanks for your opinion. I will try to see it as a new type of game, this way I will avoid making unecessary comparison. I dont have any experience with classic WRPG, but I like to experince new stuff. Hope everything goes well.

@holodust

Thanks. That's exactly what I am planning to do

I hate the combat in this game. I am practicing right now, but it is just awful. I can't get block to work, the magic sucks.

This reminds me of the time I played Resonance of Fate. Loved the World and the story but hated the dang combat system. I did finish the game though, after all the suffering. Lol!

Well i guess at least your trying to enjoy it lol.

Imo i dont understand how someone could like the combat in skyrim and not like the combat in the witcher as i think the witcher has much better combat, but yes, imo its not as simple to get into as skyims combat but  is much more satisfying once you do master it imo. I know lots of people that didnt like the combat in the witcher 2 (Combat is much better in part 3 imo) but it ended up growing on them.

But like others and i have said The Combat in The Witcher 3 wont be for everyone, but that still doesnt mean its bad. Its just not the style yourself or others are used too imo.

And 10X was just a guess lol its just i noticed a few posts from you in this thread lol.

I didn't really like the combat in Skyrim either!! But I loved that game. First person view saved the combat for me in Skyrim.

As for Witcher, I have totally done a 180 on the game, I really like it now. I still don't like the combat but the game is really good.

My first impressions are great and I haven't even put the disc in the ps4 yet.
(Damn hdd is almost full, copying my kids' endless Minecraft videos off of there)

I was expecting another flimsy empty box with just a disc inside like project cars and so many others.
Yet the standard edition has a nice sleeve with the manual. Why put the manual on the outside?
Inside the first thing you see is a nice thank you from the developers with a promise of free dlc, then a full color foldout map, compendium booklet, stickers and an audio CD with the soundtrack. Some stuff to look at while installing, plus that map will be a nice reference.

Still 10 minutes of copying/deleting, then installing and downloading day 1 patches. I love gen 8.

Mmmm ... OK, I'm warming to it a little bit. I just hope they patch the movement on foot and on horse back as well as enable you to loot while walking. I hate having to stop every time to loot.

The PS5 Exists.

Alright folks, a few people in this thread need to cool it and be nicer to each other please
