Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Witcher 3 Is Not Fun To Play (But The Quests Are Godly)

Having finished the excellent Bloodborne, I thought The Witcher would scratch an itch but instead it has me scratching my head. I'm not very far into the game, hell, I haven't even defeated the Griffon yet, but there's the thing, I keep turning it off after half an hour of play. It's just so damned 'boring' and 'awkward'. It's almost as if the devs considered every possible way of making it control badly and then added them in. I dislike controlling a character who slowly increases in speed and then slowly decreases in speed, it makes those simple tasks of grabbing loot or interacting that much more frustrating. The horse isn't fun to ride either. I just feel as if this world needs exploring but every time I look out at that vista I quit. It's a weird feeling really. I just know that it's not going to be fun to walk, ride, run, gallop, fight and forage, so what is the point in continuing to explore? And then you have the menu system which is far too busy and conplex for it's own good. I get abolutely no satisfaction from looking through the menus. I'm impressed with the graphics but just like the menu and and controls, clearly the devs needed to find a way of spoiling that too by cranking up the colour to sickening levels.

Disappointed.

Its the hangover effect from playing Bloodborne.  Your experiencing going from extremely tight and responsive controls to loose ones.  I am going through the same thing right now.

Bloodborne>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Witcher 3 in terms of game play.

Damn, I have the game day one but I haven't touched yet. I'm reading anything I can about the game before starting it. I want to experience the game for what it is but I'm afraid that reading too much into this threads can affect my perception of the game. I want to avoid labeling the game "it sucks" on the first time I find myself struggling.

Seems as though a lot of the complaints are from people who haven't played previous iterations of the series. There is a bit of a drought for some too as far as AAA titles go, most of us really.

If you just bought the game on hype expecting something else, it isn't the games fault. Coming from playing the witcher 2 on xbox some months ago now, this game is what I expected it to be and more... In a very positive way.

Seems like opinions are pretty mixed. By the sounds of it if you knew what to expect when you bought it then you shouldn't have a problem though

To be honest,  I'm not very clear what to expect.  Maybe I'm expecting a skyrim in third person type of game but apparently it's much more complex than that.  Anyway I will try my best to think it's a new type of game and try to be patient in the process.

Disagree in every way. I can't put the game down. I think the quality of the game is far above average, and the excellent reviews speak for themselves.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Well if you go in with that kind of open mind then hopefully you can enjoy it for what it is. Either way at least it's something new to play

well I have to after spending $60.  What is your opinion about the game?, I don't remember you giving your opinion about it.

The game is all about going through chores to get sex as a reward. If you can't comprehend this, then the game just isn't for you.

Life motto.

I think you have repeated this now and your dislike for the game at least a good 10 times already. Imo i found the combat in the witcher 3 easy to get into but then maybe thats cos im used to Old School WRPG's. So like others have said maybe The Witcher is just not for you..

I still don't like the combat much, but I am enjoying the game now after a few hours into it. I played over 1000 hrs in skyrim, and maybe more in oblivion. I don't have much experience with any other WRPG. But the combat in skyrim is much easier to get into.

I will probably hate the combat the whole way through this game, doesn't exactly mean this game isn't for me. It's funny how that's the answer people are spewing out in defense of the horrible combat: "It's not for you".

I found many other reasons to like the game other than combat, I love the freedom of exploration. I like some of the side missions I've done so far. I find the world and the story quite fascinating. There are many reasons to like this game, the combat isn't one of them. Then again, I've only scratched the surface. I truly hope that I will like the combat more as I continue playing the game. I have gotten used to it and the controls after a while of practicing.

Edit: 10x, really? I don't even have 10 posts in this thread.
